Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. Faculty of Social Sciences offers study programmes within archivistics, library and information science, journalism and media studies, social work, social policy and child welfare, public management and business.

The faculty has about 4200 students and nearly 280 members of staff.

Oslo Business School has approximately 1700 students and 70 employees and offers study programmes both at Bachelor and Master level, as well as a wide range of continuing and further education.

Oslo Business School is looking to recruit an associate professor in accounting with appointment from Spring/Autumn 2024. All research areas in accounting will be considered. The position is open to both associate professor and assistant professor.

Oslo Business School is a part of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The vacant position is part of the Finance and Accounting unit at the Business School. This unit is responsible for teaching finance, accounting and auditing at all levels including executive programs and continuing education. The group has a weekly seminar series and the members regularly publish in internationally recognized accounting and finance journals.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • teach and supervise at bachelor, master and/or professional education within accounting and related subjects
  • initiate and carry out academic research
  • actively contribute to the development of a high-quality education
  • perform academic administrative tasks
  • actively contribute to the development of the department and OsloMet as an institution
  • disseminate research results within the academic community and society in general

Qualification requirements

The ranking of qualified applicants is based on scientific merits, but teaching effectiveness together with personal qualities and suitability for the position are also important. We only consider recent publications (last five years) and the potential for future publications of high-quality research. The person we hire should fit the profile of our bachelor and master programs and must be able to contribute to the school's long-term academic development.

Applicants to position as associate professor must have:

  • a doctoral degree or equivalent within accounting or a related field, such as a doctoral degree in finance or financial economics
  • good teaching skills and document relevant educational theory and practice for higher education
  • written and oral proficiency in English, while written and oral proficiency in a Scandinavian language will be an advantage

Applicants to position as assistant professor/lecturer must have:

  • a master’s degree or equivalent within accounting or a related field such as a master’s degree in finance or financial economics
  • good teaching skills and document relevant educational theory and practice for higher education
  • prior work experience in accounting or auditing
  • written and oral proficiency in English, while written and oral proficiency in a Scandinavian language will be an advantage

The applicant must document relevant educational competence in accordance with OsloMet’s Guidelines for the assessment of educational competence at OsloMet.

Applicants who do not have adequate proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, shall be offered Norwegian courses, and must acquire Norwegian skills corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of appointment.

The general criteria for hiring educational and research positions are regulated by Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts

Candidates who have no relevant qualifications in pedagogy at the time of appointment must commit themselves to complete OsloMet’s program for basic pedagogical competence (15 ECTS credits) within two years.

The following will be an advantage:

  • published in recognized international journals and/or documented potential for future publications
  • academic research relevant for the position
  • experience with research networks and externally funded projects
  • relevant work experience in accounting
  • proficiency in a Scandinavian language
  • a relevant professional credential (such as statsautorisert revisor)
  • ability to teach Norwegian accounting standards (GRS norsk regnskapslov)
  • experience with teaching and supervision at multiple degree levels
  • good digital competency, preferably related to empirical research or teaching
  • ability to teach data science relevant to the field

The salary for the position is in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for state employees and OsloMets salary policy for Associate Professor in code 1011, salary NOK 615 700 – 745 000 per year. Assistant professor in code 1009, salary NOK 509 300 – 646 000 per year. From the salary, 2% will be deducted in pension contributions for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK). A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
