Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. The Faculty of Education and International Studies (LUI) has approximately 550 employees and 7000 students and is located in Oslo and Akershus. The Faculty is comprised of four departments as well as the National Centre of Multicultural Education (NAFO). The Faculty educates tomorrow’s teachers from kindergarten through upper secondary school, in close cooperation with the field of practical training. The Faculty offers a PhD in Education. In addition, the Faculty offers development studies and studies in sign language and interpreting. Diversity is a core value for the Faculty and its activities. The Faculty’s research and development focuses on practical training and is both profession-oriented and internationally oriented.

The Department of Vocational Teacher Education (YLU) is the leading academic community for vocational pedagogy in Norway. We offer study programmes in vocational teacher education and vocational pedagogy, postgraduate certificate education for vocational teachers (PPU-Y) and driving instructor education. The department also offers continuing and further education and does considerable contract work. We have a broad focus on research and development and work in close cooperation with schools and workplaces.

There is vacancy for a full time (100 %) permanent position at the department of vocational teacher education for a Professor/Dosent Professor in vocational pedagogy/pedagogy/education sciences with appointment from 1st April 2024.

The department has five research groups:

Your main duties and areas of responsibility will be to 

  • play a key role in research and dissemination of research results to academic communities and society in general 
  • be a driving force in the development of large-scale research projects and applications for external funding together with colleagues in the academic community 
  • take the initiative to and further develop research collaborations with national and international partners 
  • play a key role in the work of further developing the academic community and the department’s study programmes 
  • teach and supervise at bachelor’s, master’s and PhD level as well as follow up students in practical training  
  • actively contribute to the development of the department and OsloMet as an institution 
  • be in contact with the professional field 
  • initiate and conduct your own research and development work  
  • perform academic administrative tasks 

 

Qualification requirements 

  • professor/dosent professor qualifications in vocational pedagogy/pedagogy/education science  
  • experience in national and international research networks  
  • experience in academic management  
  • written and oral proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, and English. 

For dosent professor positions: 

The applicant must document extensive high-level research and development work related to the professional field, as well as relevant educational theory and practice qualifications gained through education or experience of teaching and supervision.  

For professor positions:  

  • relevant doctoral degree 

The applicant must document relevant educational competence in accordance with OsloMet’s Guidelines for the assessment of educational competence at OsloMet.  

General criteria for appointment to teaching and research positions are set out in the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts.  

 

Emphasis will be placed on 

  • extensive research and development work of relevance to the position.   
  • For professor positions: Great emphasis will be placed on scientific works produced in the last six years.  
  • broad experience of supervision and teaching preferably at master’s degree and PhD level 
  • teaching skills 
  • extensive competence in research methods 
  • knowledge of and/or experience with the Norwegian vocational education system 
  • experience in managing research projects involving external funding 
  • able to document results in relation to obtaining external research funding 
  • good digital skills 

 

Personal qualities required for the position 

  • the ability to communicate and cooperate well with students and colleagues 
  • interested in fresh thinking and innovation in education, research and development work 
  • the ability to work independently, structured and with great capacity  

Personal suitability will be emphasised.

We offer 

The salary for the position is in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for state employees and OsloMet’s pay policy for position code 1013 Professor and code 1532 Dosent Professor, pay grade 75-84, i.e. NOK 759 100 - 966 300 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.  

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to OsloMet.
