Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.

Would you like to lead one of Norway's largest libraries?

The university library has an important role at OsloMet, both for staff and students. In collaboration with professional communities, the library will develop and offer high-quality information resources and services, contributing to strengthen the core activities of research, education, and communication.

The university library is an integral part of the university's research infrastructure and one of its primary tasks is to contribute to OsloMet achieving its goals in this area. The library is also a central resource for the students, a driver for the development of the learning environment at the university and crucial for how learning forms and dissemination are handled in new arenas. The library has 74 employees divided between four libraries, digital services, and administration. OsloMet is looking for a library director who, together with the professional communities and other services, wants to further develop the University Library.

Main duties of the position

  • to ensure strategic development of the library towards the future needs of students and staff
  • to have an overall responsibility for the library to develop good service offers for students and staff, including digital services
  • to develop networks with other similar institutions, nationally and internationally
  • personnel responsibility for the library's staff
  • to contribute to the strategic development of the library's services in close cooperation with the subject units, other units in the joint administration and the university's top management
  • to represent the university at national and international library arenas
  • cooperation with other players in the university sector

We are looking for applicants who have

  • relevant experience from subject and research libraries
  • higher education at minimum master level /major
  • solid management experience
  • good oral and written presentation skills in a Scandinavian language (minimum B2 level) and in English

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for Norwegian state employees. 1060 Department director, salary step 82-86, i.e. NOK 888,200-994,200 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well qualified applicants. Law deducts 2% of the salary to the State Pension Fund.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to OsloMet.
