Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.

The Department of Product Design (PD) is a creative and internationally oriented institute with approx. 30 employees. We work with products, services and systems and are committed to close links with the business community. We offer a bachelor's programme in product design and a master in design in complexity, as well as a PhD programme in innovation for sustainability. The department has three research fields in the areas of design/aesthetics/materiality, systemic design and design for health.

The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities, within design, art and technical subjects. The faculty has approximately 3.000 students and 280 staff members, and is situated at Kjeller Campus in Viken and in Pilestredet Campus, in downtown Oslo.

The Department of Product Design (PD) offers bachelor and master’s degree programs, as well as performing research and development activities. The department has approximately 35 staff members and 160 students.

There is currently one research group at the Department of Product Design, but the open position will require cooperation with different groups from the departments of IT and Health. The position is open for a period of three years.

The successful candidate will work on a project entitled, “Service Design Innovation through Inclusive Health and Care Technologies”, which is funded by the Faculty of Technology Art and Design. The work will be completed in collaboration with different partners, including business, health service providers and research groups from Health and Product Design departments at Oslo Metropolitan University.

The project addresses the utilisation of smart technologies for development of innovative services within the health sector. The candidate will join a team which will help to develop a network between academia, businesses, and the health sector. They will participate in developing services as well as producing new knowledge about methodologies and theoretical perspectives relative to the use of smart technologies within the health sector. 

The successful candidate is expected to produce novel ideas in the domain of service design related to technological implementation by: 

  • Developing methodological approaches for interdisciplinary research 
  • Improving human-technology touchpoints in smart health contexts in theory and practice
  • Improving participatory processes in service design projects
  • Providing service design or user perspective on innovation approaches
  • Use of smart technologies for developing service components
  • Actively contributing to the development of high-quality education
  • Active contribution to the development of the Product Design department, and within OsloMet at large
  • Participation in developing major new research projects and applications for external funding together with colleagues at OsloMet and beyond

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Research on state of the art of smart health-based services
  • Conducting field work in health institutions and design agencies
  • Dissemination of the project results and outcomes through appropriate channels
  • Assisting in administrative requirements and contributing to building networks as a project partner

Qualification requirements

  • PhD degree in the field of design, service design, engineering, or technological innovation - with experience in one or more of the following:
    • o User based development of technological solutions.
    • o Healthcare innovation
    • o Service design
    • o Human-Computer Interaction
    • o Mixed Methods, Design Science and Participatory Design
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English

When assessing and ranking the qualified applicants, emphasis will be placed on

  • The applicant's topical profile relative to the focus of the project

The position is remunerated in accordance with the Norwegian State salary scale Post doctor 1352. The salary is NOK 543 500 – 702 100 per year, pay level 60-74.
