Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. The Faculty of Health Sciences consists of five departments and offers study programmes on all levels, including PhD. The faculty has about 6000 students and nearly 600 members of staff.

Professor in the field of health sciences

There is a vacant part-time position (50 per cent of full-time) as a professor in the field of health sciences at the Department of Physiotherapy, to start as soon as possible.

We are looking for a candidate with extensive experience of research and clinical work in the field of medicine and health sciences. It is important that you want to help us to achieve the faculty’s strategy of quality, robustness and relevance to society in the programmes and in research that can lead to innovation and improve the profession and patients’/users’ health.

The department engages in extensive research activities and has several active research groups. It offers a Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Physiotherapy and five specialisations as part of its Master Degree Programme in Health Sciences, which will start up in autumn 2021.

Main duties of the position

  • play a key role in research and dissemination of research results in the field of medicine and health sciences with relevance for psychomotor physiotherapy
  • be a driving force in the development of major research projects and contribute to applying for funds for externally funded research
  • take the initiative to and further develop research collaborations with national and international partners
  • play a key role in the further development and running of the Master’s Degree Programme in Health Sciences, the psychomotor physiotherapy specialisation
  • teach and supervise bachelor’s and master’s degree students affiliated to the Department of Physiotherapy and at the Faculty’s PhD programme
  • actively contribute to the development of the department and OsloMet as a whole

Qualification requirements

  • professor qualifications in the field of health sciences
  • health sciences education in e.g. physiotherapy, medicine or psychology
  • relevant doctoral degree
  • experience of national and international research networks
  • experience of leading externally funded research projects
  • experience of academic management
  • able to document results in relation to obtaining external research funding

Good oral and written presentation skills in English are required. Applicants who are not sufficiently proficient in a Scandinavian language upon appointment must acquire Norwegian skills corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of their appointment.

The applicant must document relevant educational competence. The criteria for the assessment of such competence are set out at our guidelines for the assessment of educational competence.

General criteria for appointment to teaching and research positions are set out in the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts.

The following qualifications are emphasized:

  • extensive recent (past six years) research and development work of relevance to the position
  • experience of humanist orientated health science research with relevance to the physiotherapy discipline
  • methodological breadth of research
  • experience of teaching and supervision at all levels (bachelor’s, master’s and PhD level)
  • experience of and an interest in interdisciplinary work
  • able to refer to good contact with and an overview of the field of practice, including physiotherapy in general and psychomotor physiotherapy in particular
  • good digital skills

The salary for the position is in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for state employees and OsloMet’s pay policy for position code 1013 Professor, i.e. NOK 704,900 – 906,000 per year for a full-time position (pay grade 75–84). A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
