The menopause is a hallmark in women’s life. Age at menopause is an indicator of cumulative exposure to female sex hormones during the life course and has been associated with hormone related cancers, such as certain breast and endometrial cancers. Lifestyle factors may influence age at menopause, and the same lifestyle factors may also influence women’s risk for these diseases after menopause. Yet, current knowledge about how lifestyle factors and age at menopause may interact in the development of hormone related cancers is limited.
The successful Ph.d. candidate will get access to questionnaire data from >500 000 participants in the BreastScreen Norway (2006-2015). These individual data are linked to the Cancer Registry of Norway. This dataset is unique, nationally and internationally, because it includes repeated measures about lifestyle from adolescence to adulthood, details about reproductive factors, and information about incident cancers. This Ph.d. project is a collaboration effort between Oslo Metropolitan University, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Akershus University Hospital and the Cancer Registry of Norway, and the PhD candidate will closely collaborate with experienced researchers at theses institutions.
