Postdoc in the study of professions - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

The Centre for the Study of Professions has a vacancy for a two-year postdoc position on a philosophical project on teachers’ knowledge base.

The postdoc will be working on the project “Renewed perspectives on research use in Education” (REPOSE), financed by the Research Council of Norway. The project will start in August 2020. It is a cross-disciplinary project that will employ a range of methods to study different aspects of the use of research in the education sector and develop new understandings about this. The postdoc will work on the WP2 of the project, titled “Philosophical foundations of teachers’ professional knowledge and agency”. This WP, led by professor Steinar Bøyum at the Centre for the Study of Professions, aims at a theoretical clarification of the philosophical underpinnings of teachers' professional knowledge and agency, in order to better understand to what extent it can and should be informed by research evidence. The following research questions will be addressed: What are the implications of later epistemological developments for professional knowledge and agency, and in particular for the place of research evidence within teachers’ knowledge base?

The postdoc will participate in the research groups Studies of the teacher profession, teacher education and education policy (TEPEE)  and Professional Knowledge, Qualifying for Professions and Coping with the Tasks of Professional Life (PKK), both located at the Centre for the Study of Professions.

The Centre for the Study of Professions is a leading research and researcher-training environment for the study of professions, and we are, amongst other things, responsible for a PhD in the Study of Professions. We study the knowledge base of professions and ethical dilemmas facing professions, recruitment to education of professions, the significance of education as a qualifier and identity-shaping arena, career and labour marked trajectories, the role of professions in shaping politics and implementation, and how professionals use their judgement and makes decisions, often with a large degree of discretion. You will be working in a cross-disciplinary environment together with researchers and PhD-candidates with a background from sociology, pedagogy, history, philosophy, political science, social anthropology, health, economy, psychology, and more. Tasks and responsibilities:

• Conduct own research (the postdoc project)
• Participate in research collaboration with national and international partners
• Active contribution to the academic community at the Centre
• Active contribution to the development of the Centre, and OsloMet in general
• Disseminating research results to academic communities, and to society in general

Qualification requirements:

• a PhD degree in philosophy or a philosophically oriented PhD in another relevant discipline
• a project proposal for a postdoc-project that contribute to REPOSE, complete with a progress plan
• capacity for independent academic work, for example proven by publications in renowned international journals
• proficiency in written and spoken English

Expert assessment
As the first step in the evaluation process, a Selection Committee will review all applications and rank them. Shortlisted applicants will be reviewed by a panel of experts. Following the expert panel’s assessment, the most highly ranked candidates will be invited to an interview.

Foreign diplomas must be translated into English by the degree-conferring institution. Education taken outside Norway should preferably be recognised in advance by NOKUT, and a confirmed copy of the letter of recognition should be enclosed.
• the project proposal (2-3 pages incl. research questions, progress plan and literature list, font 12, 1½ space 3 cm. margins)
• a list of your academic production
• up to 5 academic documents including your PhD dissertation (in English or Scandinavian languages only)

The position is remunerated in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for the Civil Service and OsloMets salary policy, 1352 Post doc, with a salary range between NOK 532 300 - 691 400 (annual). A higher salary may be considered for particularly well qualified applicants.
