Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.

The Faculty of Health Sciences consists of five departments and offers study programmes on all levels, including PhD. The faculty has about 6000 students and nearly 600 members of staff.

There is a vacancy available for an associate professor (førsteamanuensis) in prosthetics and orthotics at the Department of Occupational Therapy, Prosthetics and Orthotics from 1 April 2020. The Prosthetics and Orthotics programme is a nation-wide study programme that produces candidates for work all over Norway. Prosthetists are in high demand, and the academic community at OsloMet has seen an increase in educational and research activities in the past years.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • teaching and supervising in theory, skills training and practical training in the field of prosthetics and orthotics
  • teaching and supervising at bachelor’s, master’s and PhD level
  • developing, implementing and evaluating courses
  • strengthening research activity in the field through research, publication and dissemination actively
  • contributing to obtaining external research funding together with colleagues in the field
  • taking the initiative to and further developing research collaborations with national and international partners in practical training, education and research in the field

Qualification requirements:

  • education at PhD level.
  • authorisation as a prosthetist
  • documented teaching and supervision experience
  • good oral and written communication skills

Research fellows in the final stage of their PhDs are encouraged to apply. If no applicants with associate professor qualifications apply, applicants qualified for appointment as assistant professor (universitetslektor) who are interested in academic development will be considered for the position.

The applicant must be able to document relevant teaching qualifications. Applicants who are unable to document basic teaching qualifications upon appointment must achieve such qualifications within two years. OsloMet offers a programme in university pedagogy (UHPED) that meets this requirement.

Good oral and written presentation skills in English are required. Applicants who do not have adequate proficiency in a Scandinavian language upon appointment must acquire Norwegian skills corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of appointment.

General criteria for appointment to teaching and research positions are set out in the Regulations for appointment and promotion to academic posts.

Practical information about relocation to Oslo and living in Norway

The salary for the position is in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for state employees and OsloMet’s pay policy for the position code and title, pay grade 60–74, i.e. NOK 532,300–691,400 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
