Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. The Faculty of Health Sciences consists of five departments and offers study programmes on all levels, including PhD. The faculty has about 6000 students and nearly 600 members of staff.

Would you like to teach and conduct research as part of Norway’s largest physiotherapy programme?

There is a vacancy for the position of associate professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Department of Physiotherapy, from 1 August 2019.

If necessary, the vacancy can be split into two part-time positions. Applicants who wish to split the position are asked to specify this in their application.

The Department of Physiotherapy offers bachelor's and master’s degree programmes in physiotherapy and a master’s degree programme in rehabilitation and habilitation, as well as several further education programmes. Extensive research activity is conducted at the faculty, and there are three very active research groups at the department.

The Faculty of Health Sciences has two PhD programmes, one in behavioural analysis and one in health sciences.


As associate professor, you will be allocated time for performance-based R&D.


Main duties of the position

  • teaching and supervising bachelor of physiotherapy students
  • teaching and supervision at master’s degree and PhD level must also be expected
  • further developing courses with a student-active profile
  • grading and developing forms of assessment
  • engaging in research activity that strengthens the lines of communication between R&D, education and the professional field
  • participating in and leading research projects
  • participating in and further developing national and international collaboration
  • contributing to the development of the department’s academic activities


We are looking for candidates who have

  • a PhD degree in health sciences
  • a bachelor’s degree in physiotherapy and Norwegian authorisation as a physiotherapist
  • sound expertise of examination, functional assessment and treatment in physiotherapy
  • good written and oral English language skills.


If the candidate does not have the required skills in Norwegian or a Scandinavian language, he/she will be offered training to be able to carry out the tasks involved in the position and/or field of work. You must be able to document Norwegian skills at a level corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of being hired.


It is an advantage if you also have

  • experience of teaching and supervision at university/university college level
  • recent clinical experience
  • good knowledge of the Norwegian health service
  • documented teaching qualifications


If you do not have relevant teaching qualifications, you must undertake to complete the university's basic teaching qualification programme (15 credits) within two years.


OsloMet will test teaching qualifications in connection with interviews.

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for state employees, position code 1011, associate professor. Salary NOK 524,200 to 682,200 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
