Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. The Faculty of Education and International Studies (LUI) has approximately 550 employees and 7000 students and is located in Oslo and Akershus. The Faculty is comprised of four departments as well as the National Centre of Multicultural Education (NAFO). The Faculty educates tomorrow’s teachers from kindergarten through upper secondary school, in close cooperation with the field of practical training. The Faculty offers a PhD in Education. In addition, the Faculty offers development studies and studies in sign language and interpreting. Diversity is a core value for the Faculty and its activities. The Faculty’s research and development focuses on practical training and is both profession-oriented and internationally oriented.

The Department of Vocational Teacher Education (YLU) is the leading academic community for vocational pedagogy in Norway. We offer study programmes in vocational teacher education and vocational pedagogy, postgraduate certificate education for vocational teachers (PPU-Y) and driving instructor education. The department also offers continuing and further education and does considerable contract work. We have a broad focus on research and development and work in close cooperation with schools and workplaces.

Docent/ professor in counselling, supervision and relational leadership
There is a vacancy for a permanent full-time position as a docent/ professor at the Department of Vocational Teacher Education at the Faculty of Education and International Studies from 1 January 2019. The Department of Vocational Teacher Education educates teachers for vocational programmes in upper secondary schools, and we have a broad range of continuing and further education programmes, a big contract work portfolio and a competence centre for vocational programmes. The department also offers a master’s degree in vocational pedagogy and is affiliated to the PhD programme in educational sciences at the faculty. Read more about the faculty and the department here. There is much demand for expertise in counselling, supervision and relational leadership to be provided as continuing and further education, and we now want to expand our team with 1–2 permanent positions. We offer study programmes in career guidance and counselling, personal and social counselling, educational options, professionally-oriented counselling, and supervision and mentoring for newly-educated teachers and practical training supervisors.

Duties

  • initiating and carrying out research and development work
  • being a driving force in the development of major research projects and applications for external funding together with colleagues in the expert community
  • initiating and further developing research collaborations with national and international partners
  • playing a key role in the work of further developing the expert community and the department’s study programmes
  • teaching and supervising at bachelor's, master’s and PhD level and following up students in practical training
  • carrying out academic administrative tasks.

The teacher education profile and the profession-oriented research and development work is very important to the faculty. It is therefore important that the appointed candidate is willing to focus on challenges specific to the profession. The department has a vocational profile, also in its continuing and further education programmes, and we are looking for someone this resonates with.

Qualification requirements:

  • professor-level qualifications in a relevant field (pedagogy) or similar
  • The applicant must be able to document relevant educational theory and practice. Applicants who are unable to document basic teaching qualifications upon appointment, must achieve such qualifications within two years. OsloMet offers a programme in university pedagogy (UHPED) which meets this requirement.
  • a degree in counselling and supervision, relational leadership or classroom management
  • experience of supervision in a vocational context
  • good knowledge of vocational education and training
In the assessment and ranking of qualified applicants, emphasis will be placed on:
  • research and development work of relevance to the position. Emphasis will be placed on publications from the past six years.
  • experience of research networks and managing projects involving external funding
  • experience of teaching and supervision at all levels (bachelor’s master’s and PhD level)
  • teaching skills
  • experience of academic management
  • good digital skills
  • the ability to communicate and cooperate with students and colleagues
  • personal qualities that can make positive contributions to the working environment
  • good oral and written presentation skills in a Scandinavian language and English. Applicants whose first language is not one of the Scandinavian languages, must document both oral and written language skills. Applicants that do not fulfil this qualification, must dedicate them self to learning a Scandinavian language within two years after appointment.

The position is in accordance with the pay scale for state employees: the annual salary for professor (code 1013) and ‘dosent’ professor (code 1532) is from NOK 665,500 to NOK 893,900. A contribution of 2% to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the salary.
