The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.

The Department of Built Environment offers bachelors and master’s degree programs in engineering, in addition to research and development activities. The department has approximately 60 staff members and 850 students.

The Department of Civil Engineering and Energy Technology has a vacancy for a Professor/ Associate Professor in Energy and Environment in Buildings.

The Department of Civil Engineering and Energy Technology is growing. We are now looking for applicants for the position of Professor or Associate Professor primarily connected to our Bachelor and Master of engineering degree programmes in Energy and Environment in Buildings.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Teaching and supervision of students at bachelor, master, and PhD levels within HVAC, energy management, life cycle assessment, indoor climate & health, hygiene.
  • Development of courses within the professional field
  • Participate in R&D activities, including application for funding, research, publishing and dissemination of results
  • Strengthening the academic and research work in the field of energy and environment in buildings
  • Active contribution to the development of high quality education
  • Active contribution to the general development of the department
  • The candidate is also expected to be involved in the university’s research community in general.
  • Some administrative tasks should be expected
  • Take initiative to develop major new research projects and applications for external funding
  • Initiating and developing research collaborations with national and international partners.


Qualifications requirements:

  • Qualifications as Professor in Energy and Environment in Buildings
  • The candidate must hold a PhD degree within building services engineering and/or indoor climate & health, or similar
  • Knowledge of technical solutions used in HVAC in buildings in cold climate is required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant Norwegian technical codes and regulations is required
  • Documented research experience is required, with a publication record in international conferences/journals
  • Experience in applying for external research funding is expected
  • Experience in teaching and supervision at university college/university level
  • Proficiency in oral and written English is required. Applicants who do not have adequate proficiency in a Scandinavian language, must acquire Norwegian skills corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of commencement.
  • Experience with research networks, and project management involving external funding
  • Experience with academic management
  • The applicant must document relevant educational theory and practice for higher education. Applicants who are unable to document basic teaching qualifications on appointment, must acquire these qualifications within two years. OsloMet offers a course on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (UHPED), in English together with the University of Oslo, that meets this requirement.

  • Pedagogical skills and teaching experience

  • A text (up to 2 pages) outlining your relevant research and plans for research activity in the position (“research statement”). This overview should include an overview of existing projects and research collaborators.

The position is remunerated in accordance with the Norwegian State salary scale 75-84, job code 1013 Professor, or salary scale 60-74, job code 1011 Associate Professor. The salary is NOK 532 300 – 906 000 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
