PhD-fellowship position- International Social Work - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

The Department of Social Work, Child Welfare and Social Policy offers a 3-year PhD fellowship position within the topic of international social work related to refugees and / or asylum seekers. The position is located in the doctoral program in social work and social policy.

The PhD project has to be be designed within the field of "international social work". The target group for the project should be refugees and/or asylum seekers who establish themselves in unfamiliar and perhaps challenging contexts, and are in need of psychosocial assistance and intervention from social workers. Furthermore, the project should have an emphasis on the social workers' contribution, role, knowledge, working methods and approaches in international social work.

Following items could be relevant:

• International social work for current refugees, for example through “Social works without border” or “Red Cross” or other NGOs involved in refugee work
• Intervention in international social work
• Intervention connected to integration of refugees

Qualifications

• A masters degree (120 ETCS) in a relevant field; Social work, Child Welfare or Social science.
• Good competence in methods (quantitative and/or qualitative)
• Good language skills in English
• Ability to work independently and goal-oriented
• Strong interest in research

Desired background:

• Relevant research experience
• Relevant professional experience from welfare or social services
• Relevant experience from work with refugee, on escape or in refugee camp
• Relevant experience from international social work

Conditions:

• The PhD positions require admission to the PhD Programme in Social Work and Social Policy
• A final plan for the PhD scholarship shall be approved and made contractual no later than 3 months after commencement of fellowship.

The project proposal will be heavily weighted in the assessment of the applicants. The proposal must indicate that the project will realistically lead to a doctoral degree within the three-year period. The project’s relevance to the doctoral programme in social work and social policy will also be emphasized. The project proposal should be written in English or Norwegian. The proposal should consist of maximum10 pages and include the following elements:

• Research questions, theory and method
• Relevant knowledge requirements within the research area
• Schedule for the educational and research plan, inclusive planned articles
• If you have planned a stay at a relevant University abroad
• List of reference

Expert evaluation

An expert committee will assess applicants. You must upload the following documents together with your application by the final date for applications:

• CV and copies of diplomas and references (all pages). The certificates/diplomas must include ECTS grades (A–F). Foreign diplomas must be translated into English by the degree-conferring institution.
• Project description/proposal (Max. 10 pages, including list of references)
• Your second degree/master's degree thesis
• Other Relevant scientific works or paper/presentation
• Summary of relevant publications/research experiences.

You must upload all of these documents. Original documents and valid passport must be presented if you are invited for an interview. OsloMet performs document inspections in order to give you as a candidate a proper evaluation and ensure fair competition.

Salary is set in accordance with the Norwegian State Salary Scale, job code 1017, NOK 479 600. (salary level 54)
