Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.

Faculty of Social Sciences offers study programmes within archivistics, library and information science, journalism and media studies, social work, social policy and child welfare, public management and business.

The faculty has about 4200 students and nearly 280 members of staff.

The department has approximately 1250 students and 90 employees, and offers study programmes on bachelor’s, master’s and PhD level.

There is a vacancy for two positions of associate professor of social work at the Department of Social Work, Child Welfare and Social Policy.

The department has 90 members of staff and approximately 1,200 students, thereby representing the largest professional community in the field of social work, child welfare and social policy in Norway.

Duties:

  • teaching social work and other social science subjects
  • teaching skill training and professional interaction on different levels
  • development of continuing education
  • supervision and follow-up of students
  • educational development work
  • academic administrative tasks
  • social work research in the department’s subject areas.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have:

  • A PhD in social work and social policy or other relevant PhD
  • teaching experience in social work subjects
  • practice experience with different usergroups
  • good competence in social work services
  • research competence in social work research in the department’s priority areas
  • digital competence
  • good oral and written communication skills in Norwegian and English. Applicants who do not have adequate proficiency in a Scandinavian language on appointment, must acquire Norwegian skills corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of appointment.
  • good teaching skills. If you do not have teaching qualifications, you must undertake to complete OsloMet’s basic teaching qualification programme (15 credits) within 2 years.

  • the ability to motivate and inspire our students
  • ability to participate in restructing processes for further develop and strength the department
  • proficiency in coordinating both academic and administrative tasks
  • the ability to work independently
  • enthusiasm for and a genuine interest in the subject area

The general criteria for appointments to positions as associate professor are set out in the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts.

The university will test teaching qualifications in connection with interviews.

Other information

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for state employees: 1011 associate professor (NOK 524 200–682 200). A statutory contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the salary.
