Faculty of Social Sciences offers study programmes within archivistics, library and information science, journalism and media studies, social work, social policy and child welfare, public management and business.

The faculty has about 4200 students and nearly 280 members of staff.

Oslo Business School has approximately 1700 students and 70 employees and offers study programmes both at Bachelor and Master level, as well as a wide range of continuing and further education.

Oslo Business School has a vacancy for a temporary PhD position in Business Strategy. The position as PhD scholar is connected to the PhD programme Business Administration, Innovation and Governance at Oslo Business School at OsloMet. Offices are located in central Oslo.

The position will be affiliated to Oslo Business School’s Strategy, Innovation and Marketing group who focus on strategic management, innovation, entrepreneurship, internationalization, brand building and business communication. The group apply both qualitative and quantitative methodology and aim to contribute to both theory and practice. Researchers within the group collaborate with both private and public organizations.

About the position

This doctoral position is designed to help graduates contribute to the advancement of research and practice within business strategy. The topic of the dissertation should be relevant to the strategy, innovation and marketing group and specifically to business strategy: Ambidexterity, business model innovation, competitive advantage, digital transformation, dynamic capabilities, emergent strategies, innovation, knowledge management, organizational learning, and resource based competition (topics listed alphabetically).

The strategy, innovation and marketing group seek candidates with a strong background in disciplines that are relevant to the subfields described above, who are intellectually curious and interested in pursuing an academic career in research and teaching, and who possess strong communication and analytical skills.

The position is for three years full time but can be extended to four years if teaching assignments are included.

Qualification requirements

We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:

  • Excellent MSc in Business Administration or similar degree in related fields (120 ECTS). We also welcome applications from candidates close to finishing their degree.
  • Strong interest in research on business strategy.
  • Hands-on mentality and the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and in written form. Proficiency in a Scandinavian language is an advantage.

In addition, experience from research projects and publishing in academic journals will be an advantage, as is experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research.

Admission to the doctoral programme is a prerequisite. Applicants to this program must have a B or better on the master's thesis and an average grade B or better on the master's degree. In special cases, applicants with a grade of C may be considered for admission. In such cases, particularly relevant experience related to one's own research project and / or scientific publications may contribute to strengthening the application.

Admission to the doctoral program is based on a comprehensive assessment of the application, including the relevance and quality of the project description. Final project plan for the fellowship period is required to be completed and approved within 3 months after admittance to the post.

  • Cover letter including a full statement of motivation and a short description of a proposed topic for the PhD-dissertation. The description of a proposed topic should not be more than one page.
  • CV including a summary of master’s thesis and previous scholarly work including conference presentations.
  • Certificates/diplomas for bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The certificates/diplomas must include ECTS grades (A–F). Foreign diplomas must be translated into English by the degree-conferring institution. Education taken abroad should preferably be recognised in advance by NOKUT, and a confirmed copy of the letter of recognition should be enclosed.
  • Copies of master’s thesis and published works.

You must upload all these documents. Original documents and valid passport must be presented if you are invited for an interview. OsloMet performs document inspections to give you as a candidate a proper evaluation and ensure fair competition.

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for Norwegian state employees, job title and position code. State salary wage scale 54, 501 200 NOK per year.
