Faculty of Health Sciences announces one PhD fellowship in the area of Stroke Rehabilitation Intervention and Co-Creation.

The fellowship will be for a period of three years, or alternatively, four years including 25% compulsory work (teaching and supervision activities or research administrative work). The issue of whether a 3- or 4-year position is suitable will be discussed as part of the interview process. The academic work is to result in a doctoral thesis that will be defended at the Faculty to obtain the degree PhD.

The research fellowship is affiliated to the PhD programme in Health Sciences.

The work of the PhD student will be integrated to the digital health research at OsloMet. It will be also linked to the Intelligent Health program; an interdisciplinary initiative where researchers in health, technology, design and social science work together to find sustainable solutions to society's health challenges. In order to solve these challenges, new arenas must be created at the interfaces between health-, technology- and social sciences, key institutions such as health trusts, municipalities, as well as the private sectors and users. Research therefore often takes place close to the community and is user- and needs-oriented. Intelligent Health will contribute new knowledge, research, innovation and a more future-oriented education of tomorrow's health care professionals.

Area of research

This is an open call within the larger field of health and technology. We seek highly motivated and driven candidates that are interested to work on their PhD in the area of stroke rehabilitation and tertiary prevention in collaboration with our faculty members of OsloMet, service companies and Sunnaas Rehabilitation Hospital.

The role of the selected PhD researcher will be:

Phase 1) identify patient needs and challenges for stroke rehabilitation and tertiary prevention service in Norway
Phase 2) support co-creation / content creation of a mobile solution that a service to improve stroke rehabilitation and tertiary prevention in Sunnaas
Phase 3) support validation of the feasibility of stroke rehabilitation & tertiary prevention solution.

The candidate must write four journal papers based on the literature review, phase 1 to 3 results during the PhD study journey.

You must have

  • completed a Master’s degree (equivalent to 120 credits) with a grade B or better
  • a background in health sciences, intelligent health and health technologies or other areas relevant for the PhD project
  • good written and oral communication abilities in English

Conditions

Admission to the PhD program in Health Sciences at OsloMet is a prerequisite to receive the scholarship. You must apply to the PhD program immediately after being offered the position.

When assessing and ranking the qualified applicants emphasis will be placed on

  • the scientific quality of the project description, including originality and potential
  • past scientific work, (where relevant) experience from previous research activities and project participation.
  • academic merits as described in the CV and grade transcripts
  • English proficiency

The salary for the position is in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for state employees and OsloMet’s pay policy for position code 1017 (research fellow), salary grade 54, i.e. an initial salary of NOK 482,200 the first year. Law deducts 2% of the salary to the Norwegian State Pension Fund.

Expert evaluation and documentation requirements

Applicants will be assessed by an expert committee. In order to be considered for the position you must upload the following documents together with your online application by the final date for the application:

  • application letter, CV and copies of diplomas/certificate with transcripts of records. Please note that a description of your country /university’s grading system must be included with the transcripts. Diplomas that are not originally issued in a Scandinavian language or English must be translated into English by the degree conferring institution. Education taken abroad should preferably be recognized in advance by NOKUT, and a confirmed copy of the letter of recognition should be enclosed.
  • PhD plan which indicates that the project will realistically lead to a doctoral degree within a three-year period. The proposal should include Research questions, theory and methods, relevant knowledge within the research area, a schedule for the educational and research plan. The project proposal should not exceed 5 pages (excluding references) and should include the names of the proposed main supervisor and co-supervisor
  • list of publications where applicable
  • names and contact details of at least 2 referees
  • applicants from countries where English is not the official language must present an official language test report. Applicants who have completed one year of university studies in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK or the US are also exempt from handing in the test. The following tests can be used as such documentation: TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE). Minimum scores are: TOEFL: 600 (paper-based test), 92 (Internet-based test), IELTS: 6.5, with no section lower than 5.5 (only Academic IELTS test accepted) CAE/CPE: Grade B or A

All the documents must be in English.

OsloMet performs document inspections in order to give you as a candidate a proper evaluation and ensure fair competition.

Note also that failure to upload one or more of the above-mentioned documents will result in your application being rejected without further consideration.
