Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.

The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.

The Department of Computer Science offers three bachelor’s degree programmes, a master’s degree programme, and is part of a cross-departmental PhD program. Academic staff at the department are pursuing research in a wide range of areas including computer science, the natural sciences, and innovation and management. Both students and researchers are also involved in an increasing number of interdisciplinary initiatives across the university.

The Department of Computer Science has a vacancy for a temporary postion  as Associate Professor in Applied Artificial Intelligence for the calendar year of 2020. Depending on the amount of strategy funding allocated to this position in 2021, the position may be extended until the end of 2021.

We are looking for a candidate with a talent and a passion for research, innovation and education and an ability to develop and implement a strategic vision.

The successful candidate will be expected to actively strengthen and shape the academic and research work for the Artificial Intelligence Lab (AI Lab) at OsloMet and will be responsible for developing a strategy for the AI Lab, which includes securing external funding and strengthening OsloMet’s national and international networks. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the department and the university's research community in general, including interdisciplinary work across departments at the Faculty for Technology, Arts Design and with other faculties and research centres at OsloMet.

 

Tasks and responsibilities:

 

Initiating and developing strategic relationships between the AI lab and relevant actors in the industry, state organizations and non-profits, as well as the Norwegian government Initiating and coordinating the communication work of the AI lab, including the dissemination of research results both in academic settings and for the general public Initiating and coordinating the development of a portfolio of courses for life-long learning within areas related to the AI lab Initiating, coordinating and actively participating in writing applications for external research funding Conducting research within applied artificial intelligence and related fields. Contributing to the planning, development and delivery of courses at PhD, Master and Bachelor level Actively contributing to the development of high-quality education and research at OsloMet Performing administrative tasks related to activities within research, innovation and education.

 

Qualifications requirements:

PhD in computer science, neuro-science, psychology or a related field Documented research work and publications within computer science, neuro-science, psychology or other fields relevant to applied artificial intelligence Experience in teaching and supervision in higher education Proficiency in oral and written English is required. A working command of Norwegian is an advantage.

  • An interest in innovation and entrepreneurship. Experience from collaborating with industry is an advantage
  • Inquisitiveness, and a keenness to develop as an academic
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt to the needs of OsloMet and the department, including interdisciplinary collaboration. Experience with interdisciplinary projects is an advantage.

  • A text (up to 2 pages) outlining your relevant research and plans for research activity in the position (“research statement”). This overview should include an overview of existing projects and research collaborators.

The position is remunerated in accordance with the Norwegian State salary scale 60-74, job code 1011 Associate Professor. The salary is NOK 532 300 – 691 400 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
