Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with 23,000 students and over 2,600 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.

The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.

The Department of Built Environment offers bachelors and master’s degree programs in engineering, in addition to research and development activities. The department has approximately 60 staff members and 850 students.

The Department of Built Environment has a vacancy for a full-time (100%) position in structural engineering. We seek an innovative, creative, and responsible individual who can contribute to teaching, research, and development. The candidate will also collaborate with departmental groups to conduct interdisciplinary activities.

Your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • teaching and supervision at bachelor's, master's, and potentially PhD level in structural mechanics, steel and timber structures, and related subjects
  • actively contributing to the continued development of high-quality education in the department
  • leading and participating in research initiatives, projects, and collaborations within structural engineering
  • promoting partnerships with industry and other academic institutions
  • performing academic administrative tasks
  • actively contributing to the development of the department and OsloMet as a whole

Qualification Requirements:

  • PhD in structural engineering or a closely related field
  • Written and oral proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, and English
  • Relevant educational competence 

Applicants who do not have adequate proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, shall be offered Norwegian courses, and must acquire Norwegian skills corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of appointment.

General criteria for appointment to teaching and research positions are set out in the Regulations relating to Appointment and Promotion to Teaching and Research Positions (FOR-2006-02-09-129), cf. transitional rules described in Section 13.2 of the Regulations relating to the Act relating to Universities and University Colleges.

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • teaching and supervision experience, as well as pedagogical skills, at bachelor or master's level
  • strong digital competence, including experience with active learning methods and digital teaching and assessment tools
  • relevant research and development work experience, including involvement in research networks, externally funded projects, and project acquisition potential

The position is remunerated in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreements (Hovedtariffavtalene) for state employees and OsloMet's salary policy in position code 1011 (associate professor), corresponding to NOK 615 700 - 745 000 annually. A pension contribution of 2% is deducted. Higher salary may be considered for exceptionally qualified applicants.
