Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.
The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.
The Department of Built Environment offers bachelors and master’s degree programs in engineering, in addition to research and development activities. The department has approximately 60 staff members and 850 students.
The Department of Built Environment has a vacant position as a Reseacher. The position will link to the research group TransFrUrban (Transport, Infrastructure, and Urban development).

The position is advertised as a 2-year position with 100% research, with a possible one-year extension. The start date of the position is Aug 1st, 2025, at the latest.
This position will focus on the research tasks related to the project granted by the Global Research Council with the name “Big data technology-enabled sustainable and social just cities”. In 2020, over 50% of the world’s population are living in the urban area . By 2050, 7 out of 10 people in the world will live in cities. And the cities will generate more than 80% of the global GDP . Like some other megatrends, urbanization has the potential to become a positive transformative force for every aspect of sustainable development, including the reduction of inequality. Considering aging and new living styles (such as working from home and walkable cities), how to properly apply emerging technologies to improve urban living conditions is important. Urbanization has attracted a lot of attention from all over the world. Developing sustainable, inclusive, and equal urban transport can significantly improve urban subjective well-being. Concerning rapid climate change, it is urgent to explore the pathways of environmental just and resilient urban growth. However, there are several challenges and gaps that need to be addressed. Sustainable and inclusive services and urban planning strategies will be developed in this project by considering the proposed performance indicators. Moreover, the pathways to a sustainable, equal, and inclusive urban system will be explored by considering emerging technologies and local demands.

The salary for the position is in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for state employees and OsloMets pay policy for Senior Researcher in code 1109, corresponding to 584 500-745 000 NOK per year. From the salary, 2% will be deducted in pension contributions for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK). A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
The employment will be carried out in accordance with the principles of the Norwegian Public Service Act (lovdata.no), and legislation that regulates the export of knowledge, technology, and services.
