The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.

The Department of Computer Science offers three bachelor’s degree programmes, a master’s degree programme, and is part of a cross-departmental PhD program. Academic staff at the department are pursuing research in a wide range of areas including computer science, the natural sciences, and innovation and management. Both students and researchers are also involved in an increasing number of interdisciplinary initiatives across the university.

Algorithms and data structures concerns the efficient storage and manipulation of data using computers, and is central to all software development.

Your tasks and responsibilities will be to

  • teach and supervise at the bachelor's and master's level, in fields related to algorithms and data structures, programming in Java and other languages, and other topics within programming and software development.
  • actively contribute to the development of high-quality education
  • actively contribute to the development of the study programs at the department
  • perform academic-administrative tasks

Qualification requirements

  • doctoral degree (PhD). in a subject area relevant to computer science, computer technology, systems development, or similar
  • documented research experience and scientific publications related to algorithms and data structures, systems development, programming languages, or a closely related field.
  • good competence in Java programming as well as one or more of the following areas: Algorithms and data structures, C/C++ programming, Python, DevOPS, and software testing
  • good collaboration and communication skills
  • good written and oral presentation skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language and English

Persons who at the time of employment do not have sufficient skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language will be offered training in Norwegian, and must be able to demonstrate Norwegian skills at least equivalent to level B2 within three years from the time of employment.

The applicant must document relevant educational competence in accordance with OsloMet’s Guidelines for the assessment of educational competence at OsloMet.

General criteria for appointments to academic positions are covered by the Regulations for appointment and promotion to academic posts.

Emphasis will be placed on

  • the applicant's teaching experience, pedagogical qualities, and motivation for teaching and guidance at the bachelor and master's level
  • the ability to build environment and networks, develop research projects, and demonstrate innovation and creativity
  • ability for science communication and communication through media, public lectures, and engagement with the community
  • good written and oral presentation skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is a significant advantage.

The position is paid in accordance with the Norwegian State main tariff agreements and OsloMet's salary policy in position code 1011 Associate professor NOK 708 000 – 845 900. For particularly well-qualified applicants, a higher salary can be considered. From the salary, 2% will be deducted in pension contributions for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK).

For applicants who cannot document competencies within teaching in higher education have to develop this within two years from accession. OsloMet offers courses in teaching and learning in higher education which covers this requirement.
