Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with 23,000 students and over 2,600 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.
The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.
The Department of Built Environment offers bachelors and master’s degree programs in engineering, in addition to research and development activities. The department has approximately 60 staff members and 850 students.
The Department of Built Environment has a vacant position as a PhD fellow in transport equity. The position will link to the research group TransFrUrban (Transport, Infrastructure, and Urban development). This position will focus the research tasks related to multimode transport service considering accessibility and equality. In 2020, over 50% of the world’s population are living in the urban area. By 2050, 7 out of 10 people in the world will live in cities. And the cities will generate more than 80% of the global GDP. Like some other megatrends, urbanization has the potential to become a positive transformative force for every aspect of sustainable development, including the reduction of inequality. Considering aging and new living style (such as working from home and walkable cities), how to properly apply emerging technologies to improve the urban living condition is important. Urbanization has attracted a lot of attention from all over the world. Developing sustainable, inclusive, and equal urban transport can significantly improve urban subjective well-being. Concerning rapid climate change, it is urgent to explore the pathways of environmental just and resilient urban growth. However, there are several challenges and gaps that need to be addressed. Sustainable and inclusive services and urban planning strategies will be developed in this PhD project by considering the proposed performance indicators. Moreover, the pathways to a sustainable, equal, and inclusive urban system will be explored by considering emerging technologies and local demands. The PhD is going to working on related topics.

Admission to the PhD Programme in Engineering Science at the Faculty of Technology, Art and Design within three months of employment is a prerequisite for the position. If you already have a doctorate in a related field, you will not qualify for the position.

The position is paid according to the pay scale for Norwegian state employees, position code 1017 PhD fellow, NOK 532 200 per year.
