Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. Faculty of Social Sciences offers study programmes within archivistics, library and information science, journalism and media studies, social work, social policy and child welfare, public management and business.

The faculty has about 4200 students and nearly 280 members of staff.

The Department has around 600 students and 40 employees and is located at the OsloMet Pilestredet Campus in Oslo. Multiple programs are offered through the department, including Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral programs in Library and Information Science and a Bachelor’s program in Archivistics and Records Management.

The Department of Archivistics, Library and Information Science has available a tenured position as associate professor in library and information science.

Profile

We are looking for a person who can strengthen the department's teaching and research on digital media, platforms, and cultural expressions. The person should have an interest in the digitalization of the cultural sector, audience media habits and the significance of cultural policy instruments in a globalized media market. It is advantageous to have a particular interest in the book market and library sector. 

We do not impose any specific educational requirements, so all applicants within the social sciences and the humanities are of interest.

The position will primarily be associated with the bachelor's and master's programmes in library and information science.

Tasks and responsibilities

•    teach and supervise students at bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D. levels
•    develop courses and teaching materials in collaboration with colleagues
•    contribute to the department’s research and development activities
•    develop large research projects and applications for external funding together with colleagues

Qualification requirements

You must have:

  • relevant academic education at the doctoral level, for example in library and information science, media studies, culture and communication studies, sociology, or other disciplines within the social sciences or the humanities
  • good written and spoken proficiency in English

It is an advantage if you have:

  • fluent written and spoken proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language
  • teaching and tutoring experience at all levels
  • experience in securing external research funding

Applicants for the position of associate professor must document relevant educational competence in accordance with OsloMet’s Guidelines for the assessment of educational competence at OsloMet

The general criteria for appointment to educational and research positions are regulated by Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts.

OsloMet will test the candidates’ educational competence in connection with interviews.

Applicants who do not have adequate proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language will be offered Norwegian courses, and must acquire Norwegian skills corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of appointment.

The salary for the position is in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for state employees and OsloMet’s pay policy for Associate Professor in code 1011, corresponding to NOK 615,700–745,000 per year. 2% will be deducted from the salary in pension contributions to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK). A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
