We have a vacancy for a full-time permanent positions as associate professor (førsteamanuensis/førstelektor) in radiography at the Department of Life Sciences and Health. We hope to fill the vacancy as soon as possible. We are looking for ambitious candidates familiar with clinical developments who have the motivation to strengthen our academic community. 

The Department of Life Sciences and Health conducts extensive research activities and is part of the institutional Intelligent Health initiative. We now wish to increase our expertise in radiography research and development and further develop externally funded research activities at the department. Our new member of staff will actively contribute to these goals. They will also play an important role in enhancing academic expertise at bachelor’s and master’s levels, as well as in further education, and thus the development of radiography education as a whole.

Radiography is one of four sections at the Department of Life Sciences and Health, which is part of the Faculty of Health Sciences. The department offers Norway’s largest radiography programme and employs around 20 members of staff and several PhD fellows. The academic environment is responsible for the bachelor’s degree in radiography and the further education programme in radiotherapy, as well as the radiography specialisation in the master’s programme Health and Technology. This master’s programme comprises several specialisations covering different disciplines relating to the field of health, with technology as a common denominator. The programme aims to contribute to expertise in interdisciplinary cooperation and efficient use of technology to maintain a sustainable health service. In the radiography specialisation, candidates can choose between CT and conventional radiography. 

The radiography discipline includes CT as a specialisation field, which is one of our important areas of priority. In addition, simulation is being further developed as a method, and several persons have been trained to facilitate this. The radiography section is innovative when it comes to both education and the development of the discipline, with an intensified focus on innovation, technology and digital skills. We use student-active learning methods in all courses, and we have developed several digital textbooks. The section has good external partners in Norway and abroad in clinics, industry and at other research and educational institutions. This allows for many exciting research projects as well as bachelor’s, master’s and PhD projects. The PhD fellows can follow the Faculty of Health Sciences’ own PhD programme. The section also has three laboratories – conventional radiography, mobile radiography and a Cone Beam-CT (extremity CT). The skills training facilities are well equipped to conduct realistic simulations. 

Your main duties in the position will be

• Carrying out your own research and development work in diagnostic imaging and treatment
• Actively participating in the development of major research projects and applications for external funding together with colleagues in the academic community
• Actively contributing to and developing new research, innovation and education collaborations with national and international partners
• Disseminating knowledge and research results both to academic communities and to society in general
• Teaching and supervising students
• Actively contributing to developing the discipline, innovation and digitalisation
• Helping to develop digital learning resources
• Performing academic administrative tasks

Qualification requirements

The position is advertised at three levels. The items below are qualification requirements for the position of førsteamanuensis (associate professor), førstelektor (associate professor) and assistant professor

• Relevant higher education that qualifies the candidate for a position as an associate professor
• Relevant education and specialisation in the field of life sciences and health (radiography, medicine, medical physics etc.) 
• Relevant research and/or development work
• Experience of teaching/supervision at university/university college level
• Good written and verbal presentation skills in English

The position of førsteamanuensis also requires 

• A relevant PhD 
• The applicant must document relevant educational competence in accordance with the Guidelines for the assessment of educational competence at OsloMet

The position of førstelektor also requires

• Extensive documented research and development work that, in quality and scope, corresponds to the workload and level of a doctorate degree in radiography, medicine or medical physics
• Importance will be attached to particular qualifications in teaching or other educational activities, and
• Documented relevant educational theory and practice based on training or on teaching and supervision

General criteria for appointment to teaching and research positions are set out in the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts.  

Applicants must document basic competence in teaching and supervision at university and university college level. Applicants who are unable to document such basic university teaching qualifications upon appointment must achieve such qualifications within two years. OsloMet offers a programme in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (UHPED) that meets this requirement.

If no applicants with associate professor qualifications apply, applicants qualified for appointment as an assistant professor (universitetslektor) who are interested in academic development may be considered for the position. In such case, an applicant may be appointed to a temporary position as an assistant professor (universitetslektor) on the condition that he/she qualifies for a permanent associate professor position within three years, cf. the Act relating to Universities and University Colleges Section 6-5(1). The applicant must have a clear plan for how he/she will achieve associate professor qualifications within three years. Final-stage PhD candidates are encouraged to apply.

Desirable qualifications

• Experience of managing research projects and/or obtaining external research funding
• A national and international network in research and/or teaching 
• Experience of digital learning tools in an educational context 
• Knowledge of the Norwegian health service 
• Proficiency in a Scandinavian language

• Documented relevant educational theory and practice based on training or on teaching and supervision (only applies to applications for a førstelektor positions)
• A teaching portfolio, including a profiling document (only applies to applications for a førsteamanuensis position)
• Preferably two references with contact information

The salary for the position is in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for state employees and OsloMet’s pay policy for position code 1011 førsteamanuensis/1198 førstelektor, pay grade 60-74, i.e. NOK 615,700-745,000 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
