The Faculty of Health Sciences consists of five departments and offers study programmes on all levels, including PhD. The faculty has about 6000 students and nearly 600 members of staff.

Department of Nursing and Health Promotion is located at all three campus: Kjeller, Pilestredet and Sandvika. The department has approximately 3000 students and 250 employees.

There is a vacancy for a full-time temporary position as associate professor in public health nutrition with the Department of Nursing and Health Promotion. The vacancy is for 2.5 years, with the possibility of extension. 

Public health nutrition can be described as efforts made by society to promote good health and sustainability through diet and nutrition. Our objective is to educate professionals capable of identifying and analyzing nutritional challenges, proposing and implementing evidence-based measures, and monitoring and evaluating their effectiveness. This work can take place in different arenas and at different levels, from the local to the global.

OsloMet offers the only master’s degree programme in public health nutrition in Norway, and the programme is taught in English to Norwegian and international students. We need to further increase our academic staff for the specialisation courses in public health nutrition. The main duties assigned to the position are related to teaching, supervision and follow-up of the study programmes, as well as participation in and initiation of research activities and research contributions. Teaching on other relevant programmes in the department may also fall within the scope of the position.

Your main duties in the position will be

  • teaching and supervision on the Public Health Nutrition programme, a specialisation under the master’s degree programme in Health Sciences
  • performing academic administrative tasks
  • carrying out research and development work related to public health nutrition
  • disseminating research results  

Qualification requirements

  • a PhD in nutrition, preferably public health nutrition or the equivalent
  • relevant experience of teaching and supervision, preferably at university/university college level
  • good digital skills
  • good oral and written English skills

A PhD is required for the position of associate professor.

In the absence of qualified applicants, applicants with assistant professor qualifications may be considered for the position. Final-stage PhD candidates are encouraged to apply.

Desirable qualifications 

  • experience of practical work and/or R&D work in public health nutrition, at the global, national or local level
  • knowledge of relevant institutions and strategies that inform public health nutrition (especially nutrition policy and action), nationally and internationally
  • experience of participation in research networks and externally funded projects
  • experience of teaching and supervision at bachelor’s and master’s degree level

  • interest in and experience of student-active forms of learning and digital learning resources
    proficiency in a Scandinavian language

The salary for the position is in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for state employees and OsloMet’s pay policy for position code 1011 førsteamanuensis, pay grade 60–74, i.e. NOK 553,500–714,000 per year, or position code 1009 universitetslektor, pay grade 51–66, i.e. 
NOK 478 300–615 000 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
