Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.
The Faculty of Health Sciences consists of five departments and offers study programmes on all levels, including PhD. The faculty has about 6000 students and nearly 600 members of staff.
The Department of Occupational Therapy, Prosthetics and Orthotics at the Faculty of Health Sciences has vacancies for two permanent associate professor (førsteamanuensis/førstelektor)/assistant professor (universitetslektor) positions in prosthetics and orthotics from 1st of September 2022. One of the positions is full-time and the other 50% of full-time. Appointment in a lower percentage of a full-time position is also possible, ideally in combination with a relevant clinical role or other relevant position.
The positions will be affiliated with the field of prosthetics and orthotics and involve teaching, supervision and assessment at the bachelor’s degree level, but the persons appointed are also expected to contribute to teaching in courses at both bachelor’s and master’s degree level.
The Prosthetics and Orthotics programme is a national study programme. We are looking for someone with a strong desire to contribute to the development of the programme and to raise the quality of teaching, research and knowledge dissemination. The work involves further developing arenas for research and education/clinical practice collaboration with orthopaedic technology enterprises all over the country.
There has been great demand for prosthetics and orthotics candidates at the national level for some time. The programme has therefore increased both the frequency of admissions and the number of students admitted over the past years. A specialisation in assistive health technology is also being developed under a new master’s degree programme, and we need to make additions to our teaching and research staff.
New programme descriptions have recently been developed for all the bachelor’s programmes at the Faculty of Health Sciences, and from 2021, we started using the new programme description for the Prosthetics and Orthotics programme. A master’s degree programme in Health Sciences that includes several different specialisations also started up in autumn 2021, and we are currently developing a master’s degree programme in Health and Technology.
As an associate professor/assistant professor, you will be part of an active and ambitious team with interdisciplinary competence and extensive teaching experience. From 1st of July 2022, the section for prosthetics and orthotics will be organised under the Department of Rehabilitation Science and Health Technology, following a merger of the Department of Physiotherapy and the Department of Occupational Therapy, Prosthetics and Orthotics. The new department will be divided into four sections: the section for the bachelor’s programme in occupational therapy, the section for the bachelor’s programme in prosthetics and orthotics, the section for the bachelor’s programme in physiotherapy, and the section for master’s degrees and continuing education. We are constantly working to develop the discipline, and extensive research activity takes place in the department, which currently has five research groups including Clinical interventions and assistive technology (CAT group) and Interventions in Work and Everyday Life.
We are preferably looking for someone with associate professor qualifications, but we also strongly encourage applicants with assistant professor qualifications and final-stage PhD candidates to apply.
Persons appointed to an associate professor (førsteamanuensis) position must have a PhD or the equivalent, and teaching qualifications.
Persons appointed to an associate professor (førstelektor) position must have a pre-1990 university degree approximately equivalent to a master’s degree, a second degree under the pre-2003 system (‘hovedfag’) or a master’s degree, and documented extensive research and development work that in quality and scope corresponds to the workload and level of a doctoral thesis.
Persons appointed to an assistant professor (universitetslektor) position must have a second-level degree from a university, university college or the equivalent, and relevant research qualifications over and above master’s or second-degree level and/or relevant work experience, as well as an interest in academic development.
The applicant must document relevant educational competence. The criteria for the assessment of such competence are described here: the Guidelines for the assessment of educational competence at OsloMet. Applicants who are unable to document basic educational competence upon appointment must achieve such qualifications within two years. OsloMet offers a programme in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (UHPED) that meets this requirement.
General criteria for appointment to teaching and research positions are set out in the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts.
OsloMet will test teaching qualifications in connection with interviews.
It is important to OsloMet to reflect the population of our region, and all qualified candidates are welcome to apply. We make active endeavours to further develop OsloMet as an inclusive workplace and to make adaptations to the workplace where required. You are also welcome to apply for a position with us if you have had periods where you have not been in employment, education or training.
