The Faculty of Education and International Studies (LUI) has approximately 550 employees and 7000 students and is located in Oslo and Akershus. The Faculty is comprised of four departments as well as the National Centre of Multicultural Education (NAFO). The Faculty educates tomorrow’s teachers from kindergarten through upper secondary school, in close cooperation with the field of practical training. The Faculty offers a PhD in Education. In addition, the Faculty offers development studies and studies in sign language and interpreting. Diversity is a core value for the Faculty and its activities. OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University, the Faculty of Education and International Studies (LUI) is looking for a new dean. OsloMet is Norway’s third largest university and offers a wide range of profession-oriented study programmes and professionally relevant research. The university’s teaching is based on outstanding research, development work and experience-based knowledge. We cooperate closely with businesses and public enterprises to contribute to our students’ professional development and give them work experience.  OsloMet offers vocational programmes that are in high demand in the labour market, and we have an extensive portfolio in research and development work for clients in the private and public sectors.

The Faculty of Education and International Studies (LUI) has around 600 employees and 7,000 students with one campus in the center of Oslo and one north of Oslo. The faculty comprises four departments and the National Centre of Multicultural Education (NAFO). The faculty educates the teachers of tomorrow, from kindergarten to upper secondary school, in close collaboration with the professional field. The faculty offers a PhD programme in educational sciences for teacher education. It also offers development studies and education in sign language and interpreting. The Faculty of Education and International Studies is looking for a strategic and goal-oriented leader who can contribute to the university’s ambition of becoming a leading institution in profession-oriented research, education and lifelong learning, at the regional, national and international level.

The Dean has overall responsibility for the faculty’s activities within the framework adopted by the faculty board, the university board, or the Rector. The Dean is responsible for implementing decisions decided by the faculty board, the university board, or the Rector.

The faculty board is the faculty’s supreme decision-making body, and it reports to the Rector via the Dean. The Dean is responsible for personnel management, the faculty’s work environment and has performance responsibility.

The Dean’s duties and areas of responsibility are

  • to prepare items for, and to facilitate the faculty board’s work on defining goals, priorities and measures relating to the faculty's activities
  • to chair the faculty board, facilitate efficient and expedient organisation of the faculty, and contribute to raising the level of competence among the faculty’s staff and managers
  • to contribute to ensuring that the university’s academic activities maintain a high international quality and that innovation and dissemination are given top priority
  • to contribute to developing OsloMet and raising its profile as a leading educational and research institution in an international and multicultural society
  • to maintain contact with union representatives and the safety line as well as follow-up of the faculty’s internal control and HSE

Qualification requirements

  • formally qualified for employment in positions which entails a completed doctorate or equivalent
  • experience with teaching, research and development work, dissemination and innovation
  • verifiable results from building a culture for education and research of high international quality
  • high-level management experience from complex knowledge organisations

Candidates must also have

  • expertise in financial and resource management, as well as in legislation and agreements in the public sector
  • experience of managing change processes, strategy development, implementation and financial management
  • expertise in international and national development processes and trends in higher education
  • good oral and written presentation skills in Norwegian or other Scandinavian language and English

Other information

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for state employees, job code 1474. Salary is NOK 977,600–1,169,500 per year (pay grade 86–94). A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants. The appointment is for a fixed term of four years starting on August 1st, 2022.
