The Faculty of Education and International Studies (LUI) has approximately 550 employees and 7000 students and is located in Oslo and Akershus. The Faculty is comprised of four departments as well as the National Centre of Multicultural Education (NAFO). The Faculty educates tomorrow’s teachers from kindergarten through upper secondary school, in close cooperation with the field of practical training. The Faculty offers a PhD in Education. In addition, the Faculty offers development studies and studies in sign language and interpreting. Diversity is a core value for the Faculty and its activities. The Faculty’s research and development focuses on practical training and is both profession-oriented and internationally oriented.

The Department of Primary and Secondary Teacher Education (GFU) has strong research communities within the field of school subjects, educational science, and digital competence, and educates teachers for the Norwegian school system in close cooperation with the field of practical training. The Department offers studies on bachelor and master level, and contributes to the general development of skills for school employees through continuing and further education.

The Department of Primary and Secondary Teacher Education has a vacancy for one fulltime Professor/Teaching Professor in Physical Education. The position is vacant from 1st August 2022. 

The Faculty of Education and International Studies at Oslo Metropolitan University is seeking a candidate who will help to further develop our teacher education programs and help to move the research within the subject area of Physical Education forward. We are especially looking for a candidate who is concerned with conducting research-based teaching and building academic environments that deliver research projects, publish, and disseminate at a nationally and internationally recognized level. We are looking for a candidate who has expertise in Physical Education pedagogy, who has a social science approach to their research, and who has experience with research collaboration both nationally and internationally. 

The advertised position is in the Section for Physical Education. There are about 25 employees, including 5 Ph.D. fellows, affiliated with this section, which is an established professional community that teaches and does research in Physical Education. Embodied learning and public health and life skills are two of the section’s focus areas. The section teaches in the Department’s entire education portfolio.

Your duties and responsibilities will be to:  

  • play a central part in research and dissemination of research results both to academic environments and society in general
  • be a driving force for developing major research projects and applications for external funding together with colleagues in the academic community
  • take the initiative and further develop research collaboration with national and international partners
  • play a central role in the work of further developing the academic environment and the department's educations
  • teach and supervise at bachelor, master's and Ph.D. level, and follow up students in practice
  • actively contribute to the development of the department and OsloMet as a whole
  • be in contact with the professional field
  • initiate and carry out your own research and development work
  • academic-administrative tasks 

 

Qualification requirements: 

  • professor/professor (dosent) competence in physical education or sport sciences with a research orientation toward social science 
  • experience with national and international research networks
  • experience in managing projects with external funding
  • experience with professional management
  • documented results of obtaining external research funding 

Good oral and written presentation skills in English are required. Applicants who do not have sufficient knowledge of a Scandinavian language must acquire knowledge of the Norwegian language corresponding to level B2 within three years after starting in the position. Courses are offered at Oslo Metropolitan University. 

For professor (dosent) positions: 

  • The applicant must document extensive research and development work at a high level aimed at the professional field and relevant practical-pedagogical competence on the basis of education or teaching and guidance. 

For professor positions: 

General criteria for appointments to academic positions are covered by the Regulations for appointment and promotion to academic posts.

  • Extensive research and development work that is relevant to the position
  • Scientific production from the last six years
  • Experience from teaching and supervision preferably at master's and Ph.D. level
  • Pedagogical skills
  • Digital proficiency
  • The ability to communicate and collaborate well with students and colleagues

Practical information about relocation to Oslo and living in Norway 

The position is remunerated in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for the Civil Service and OsloMets salary policy as Professor, code 1013/1532 (dosent). The salary is NOK 715 900 – 919 700 per year, salary scale 75-84. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well qualified applicants.
