Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.

The Department of Art, Design and Drama (EST) is developing rapidly and is facing exciting changes in the next few years. The department has approximately 900 students and 58 employees. We offer study programmes at bachelor's and master's level in design, arts and crafts, drama and theatre communication, art dissemination, and fashion and production.

In addition, we have a new PhD program: Innovation for sustainability, and number of further education programmes and practical pedagogical programmes in design, arts and crafts and drama and theatre communication. Most of the study programmes have an element of outreach practical training as an integral part. The department has four research groups and a high level of activity in external activities. This is affiliated with the department's unit for lifelong learning

The Department of Art, Design and Drama( EST) at the Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) has as a vacancy for a Professor/ Doesn’t in Art in Society

EST is located in Pilestredet Park, in downtown Oslo. The faculty is in strong development and is facing exciting changes in the coming years. The Department of Art, Design and Drama will be central to this development. The department has approx. 800 students and 50 employees. We provide education at bachelor and master's level in design, arts and crafts, arts and design, drama and theater communication, several further educations and in practical pedagogical educations in design, arts and crafts and drama and theater communication. The department also has extensive activity in continuing and further education, in addition to commissioned activities.

The position is linked to teaching and supervision at the Master Programme in Visual and Performing Arts, the Bachelor's degree in Art and design – Dissemination, and at the PhD program in Innovation for Sustainability. At the Master Programme in Visual and Performing Arts, the position is linked to the field of study Art in Society.

Our professional environments have distinguished themselves nationally and internationally in several fields and emphasize professional and collegial support in our professional activities.

EST combines a practical and theoretical approach to artistic activity in a contemporary context and is concerned with developing interdisciplinary collaborations within and outside the institution. The programs include dissemination in various media and formats, project development, curation and organization and are aimed at both the private and public sectors. Work with new technology, innovation, cultural entrepreneurship, sustainability and diversity are key focus areas for the educations.

TKD has a strong focus on research and development. A number of active research groups have been established at the Department of Art, Design and Drama. The person appointed is expected to carry out research, publish and participate in the development of  research and development with Art in society.

Your duties and responsibilities will be

  • Teaching and supervising students at all levels of the programme.
  • Take own initiatives as a researcher in the field, and actively contributes to the development of the department's research profile, which involves both scientific research and artistic research.
  • Course responsibility for the programme option Art in Society
  • Participating in research activity and development of the department’s teaching activities
  • Participating in developing of teaching and programs at the institute
  • Participating/leading research groups in the department and work on applications for external research funding
  • Exchanging experience and guiding colleagues

 Qualification requirements

  • Professor / Dosent competence in Art in Society
  • High qualifications in artistic activities and contemporary expression with perspectives on ethics and sustainability
  • Documented relevant educational theory and practice for higher education.
  • Experience with variety of teachingmethods, including digital teaching, and supervision at university and/or university college level
  • Documented basic qualifications in teaching and supervision at university and university college leve
  • Documented results of obtaining external research funding
  • Good oral and written presentation skills in English are required. Applicants who do not have sufficient knowledge of Scandinavian must have acquired Norwegian knowledge corresponding to level B2 within three years of commencement. Courses are offered at OsloMet

For professor positions:

  • relevant doctoral degree

Applicants must document relevant educational competence in accordance with OsloMet's Guidelines for assessment of educational competence.

For docent positions:

The applicant must document extensive research and development work at a high level aimed at the professional field and relevant practical-pedagogical competence on the basis of education or teaching and guidance.

General criteria for appointments to academic positions are covered by the Regulations for appointment and promotion to academic posts.

  • Experience with national and international research networks and participating in the public academic discourse
  • Experience with professional management

If there are no applicants with relevant expertise, it may be appropriate to hire in a temporary position, with a requirement for qualification for permanent employment within three years, if. UH-loven §6 - 5. If top competence is not achieved within three years, you must resign from the position.

Practical information about relocation to Oslo and living in Norway

 The position is remunerated in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for the Civil Service and OsloMets salary policy: 1013 Professor, 1532 Dosent. The salary is NOK 715 900 – 919 700 , salary scale: 75 – 84. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well qualified applicants.
