The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.


The Department of Mechanical, Electronic and Chemical engineering (MEK) is one of five departments at the Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD). The department offers studies at bachelor, master and PhD levels in engineering education and has research and development activities within the department's subject areas. The department has about 40 employees and about 460 students.

The engineers of the future must have a high level of professional competence and the ability to work interdisciplinary in an international environment. Students must acquire and develop solid theoretical subject knowledge, practical skills and good social skills. The department emphasizes that teaching, supervision and development must take place in a good learning environment. Our employees must therefore be enthusiastic towards student development, in addition to having a solid academic and theoretical background.

At the MEK department, we need to strengthen the teaching and supervision capacity within industrial automation, which is one of two specializations in our electrical engineering study programs. We therefore search for an Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Industrial automation / electrical engineering. It is a fixed-term one year position of at least 70%. A larger position share is possible of desired. The desired start-up is as soon as possible and no later than January 2022.

Your duties and responsibilities will be to

  • Teach industrial automation courses such as instrumentation and dynamic systems
  • Supervise students at bachelor's level in industrial automation and possibly electronic engineering
  • Further develop the academic environment and the department's educational programs
  • Perform professional-administrative tasks
  • Contribute to the development of the department, faculty and OsloMet as a whole

Qualification requirements

  • Ph.D./siv.ing/MSc in Automation, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotic or related subject area
  • Good knowledge of software tools such as MATLAB®, PLC programming and other relevant industrial automation programs
  • Good written and oral presentation skills in a Scandinavian language and/or English

Desired qualifications

  • Practical pedagogical education and / or teaching experience
  • Relevant work experience in industrial automation
  • Experience from research in industrial automation and control

 The position is remunerated in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for the Civil Service and OsloMets salary policy job title and position code:  1011 Associate professor is paygrade. 60 – 74, NOK 543 500 – 702 100 in a 100% position and 1009 Assistant professor is paygrade. 51 – 66, NOK 468 300 – 604 700 in a 100% position A higher salary may be considered for particularly well qualified applicants.
