Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.

The Faculty of Health Sciences consists of five departments and offers study programmes on all levels, including PhD. The faculty has about 6000 students and nearly 600 members of staff.

Department of Nursing and Health Promotion is located at all three campus: Kjeller, Pilestredet and Sandvika. The department has approximately 3000 students and 250 employees.

The Faculty of Health Sciences, the Department of Nursing and Health Promotion, has a vacancy for one 100% position as professor in the field of mental health care. A lower position percentage combined with another position/clinical position can also be considered. The position is vacant from 1st of January 2022. 

We are looking for a candidate who will help to strengthen the academic, scientific and student-oriented work at the faculty.

The position will be affiliated to the advanced programme and master's programme in mental health care, but it may also be relevant to teach in mental health care in other educations at the department. Cooperation with other departments at the Faculty of Health Sciences and OsloMet in general on teaching and research activities is a possibility. The candidate appointed is also expected to participate in the development of the academic communities' research qualifications.

Extensive research activity is conducted at the department, which has many research groups. The Faculty of Health Sciences has currently two PhD programmes.


Tasks and responsibilities:

  • conducting research and disseminating research results in the field of mental health care
  • initiating and contributing to applications for funds for externally funded research
  • lecturing on the department's programmes, supervising students and grading assignments
  • lecturing on the faculty’s PhD programme, and supervising PhD students
  • further developing national and international cooperation with new and established partners in the field
  • contributing to the development and establishment of a research group in mental health and mental health care at the department/faculty
  • develop cooperation across the departments at the university

 

Qualification requirements

We are looking for candidates who have

  • professor qualifications in mental health care
    experience with research networks, and project management involving external funding
  • academic leadership skills
  • experience with the user group
  • good English skills (written and oral). Applicants who do not have sufficient knowledge of Scandinavian must have acquired Norwegian knowledge corresponding to level B2 within three years of commencement. Courses are offered at OsloMet.

In connection with the appointment, emphasis will be placed on the candidate's overall academic production, and the person appointed must have academic qualifications in one of more of the following fields:

  • connection between mental and somatic health
  • violence and trauma
  • suicide research and prevention
  • intoxication and addiction
  • drug-free treatment options
  • mental health of children and young people
  • user and relative work in mental health services and TSB (interdisciplinary specialized drug treatment)
  • family and network involvement in mental health care

Applicants must document relevant educational competence in accordance with OsloMet's Guidelines for assessment of educational competence.

General criteria for appointments to academic positions are covered by the Regulations for appointment and promotion to academic posts.


The following will be an advantage:

  • demonstrated an ability to secure external funding for research projects
    leadership experience or have participated in national and international research networks
  • ongoing research activity and recent scientific publications in the field of mental health
  • emphasis will be placed on scientific production from the last six years
  • clinical experience and practice of mental health care
  • experience of development and use of digital learning tools

Practical information about relocation to Oslo and living in Norway

The position is remunerated in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for the Civil Service and OsloMets salary policy, as professor, code 1013. The salary is NOK 715 900 – 919 700 per year, salary scale 75-84.  A higher salary may be considered for particularly well qualified applicants.
