OsloMet is looking for a rector

OsloMet is Norway’s third largest university and focuses on the needs of society and employers. The Rector is the university’s general manager and is responsible for managing its activities in accordance with the framework and instructions adopted by the Board. The Rector reports to the Board.

Main duties of the position

  • positioning OsloMet nationally and internationally
  • ensuring that the institution achieves its strategic goals in order to meet future challenges
  • ensuring that OsloMet is a visible and clear agenda-setter in public debate
  • networking with key partners in the education sector, business and industry, and local and national authorities
  • acting as a source of inspiration and a driving force behind complex organizational changes, strategic development and implementation, and financial management
  • developing a positive, ambitious and inclusive organisational culture and a good working environment for staff and students
  • developing professional and quality-focused management throughout the organisation
  • ensuring that resources and property are used in accordance with the decisions of the Board and that the overall financial management is in accordance with the applicable legislation and the Ministry's guidelines 

Qualifications

The Rector must have the formal qualifications required for appointment to an academic position at a university or university college (PhD degree) and have first-hand experience of the university’s core activities: teaching, research, dissemination and innovation.

Candidates must also have

  • high-level management experience from complex knowledge organisations
  • experience of managing change processes, strategy development and implementation
  • good interpersonal skills and the ability to build networks
  • excellent oral and written presentation skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, and English 

We are looking for a candidate with

  • an excellent understanding of organisations
  • a sound understanding of the needs of the labour market and of the market and political context in which OsloMet operates
  • good internal and external communication skills
  • sound knowledge of and experience from the higher education sector
  • a motivating, inclusive and result-oriented leadership style, an understanding of politics and the ability and will to profile OsloMet in both the national and international context
