Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.

Faculty of Social Sciences offers study programmes within archivistics, library and information science, journalism and media studies, social work, social policy and child welfare, public management and business.

The faculty has about 4200 students and nearly 280 members of staff.

Oslo Business School has approximately 1700 students and 70 employees and offers study programmes both at Bachelor and Master level, as well as a wide range of continuing and further education.

About the positions

Oslo Business School at Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet) has available up to four fully funded positions as Research Fellow. The positions are not associated with specific research projects and applicants can formulate their own ideas for a research project based on the Business School's research areas. The accepted fellows will be admitted to the newly established Ph.D. program in social science at OsloMet, in the profile Business Administration, Innovation and Governance. The Ph.D. students/research fellows are supervised by the highly qualified faculty of the Business School and applicants are encouraged to contact faculty to discuss potential research projects. Applicants should familiarize themselves with the School's research fields and relevant areas of specialization.

Candidates must outline a project that can be connected to one or more of the Business School's research areas, which are organised as five academic units:

  • Finance and accounting: The group welcomes applicants with the ambition of developing research competence within the following disciplines; corporate finance, corporate governance, sustainable finance, and public accounting and public cost management.
  • Public administration and governance: The group is multidisciplinary, with research on public policy and governance. We welcome applications from the subject fields of political science, sociology, law, organization and management. Some relevant thematic focuses are: The Covid-19 pandemic and urban governance, public sector reforms and governance, and digital platforms and democracy.
  • Organisation and management: The organization and management group has an emphasis on human aspects in various organizational context. We welcome applications within organizational behavior, HRM, arts management and the management of professions.
  • Economics: The group welcomes applicants who wants to study environmental economics, industrial organization and policies for the green transformation of the economy.
  • Strategy, innovation and marketing: The group welcomes applicants with the ambition of developing research competence within the following disciplines; strategy, strategic management, innovation/innovation management, marketing, digitalization, communication and/or entrepreneurship.

Main duties of the position

The purpose of the position is to complete a research project leading to a doctorate degree. The research fellow will be employed at Oslo Business School and be part of one of the five academic units.

The research fellowship period is for three years. Depending on area of research and the wishes of those employed in the position, a fellowship for a total of four years (including 25% teaching duties connected to the department's study programmes) may be considered.

Qualification requirements

To be considered for this position you must have

  • a Master’s degree (120 ECTS credits) or equivalent within social science, humanities, business/administration or related fields with excellent academic results
  • good oral and written presentation skills in English

All applicants should provide a project proposal (in English or Norwegian) consisting of 6-10 pages, giving a detailed description of their planned research. The research proposal will be an important part of the assessment, and must demonstrate how the project will lead to a doctoral degree within the designated period. The project’s relevance to the doctoral programme, and the Business School's academic profile (with respect to finding a good supervisor-supervisee match) will also be taken into consideration. When assessing and ranking the qualified applicants, emphasis will be placed on:

  • The scientific quality of the Ph.D. project description, including originality and potential
  • The Ph.D. project’s feasibility within the standard period (three years)
  • Personal qualities that can contribute positively to the working environment
  • Good knowledge (written and oral) in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is an advantage

Other factors that can be an asset:

  • Attached scientific work
  • Other relevant publications
  • Experience from previous research activities and project participation
  • Teaching experience at the college and university level

Acceptance to the Ph.D. programme in social science at OsloMet is a prerequisite for starting the position as research fellow. Applications for the programme will be submitted after the hiring process has been completed.

It is expected that the research fellows have their daily place of work at the university's campus in Oslo during the fellowship period.

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for Norwegian state employees, job title and position code. Ph.D. position and position code 54, NOK 482 200 per year.

  • CV, references and all pages of certificates/diplomas. The certificates/diplomas must include ECTS grades (A–F). Foreign diplomas must be translated into English by the degree-conferring institution. Education taken abroad should preferably be recognised in advance by NOKUT, and a confirmed copy of the letter of recognition should be enclosed.
  • Your master's degree/second degree thesis (and any other scholarly work that you wish the expert committee to take into consideration) and a list of your publications
  • Project description: maximum 10 pages. The project description must be written in English or a Scandinavian language.
