Faculty of Social Sciences

Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.

Faculty of Social Sciences offers study programmes within archivistics, library and information science, journalism and media studies, social work, social policy and child welfare, public management and business.

The faculty has about 4200 students and nearly 280 members of staff.

At the newly established Diversity Studies Centre Oslo (DISCO), at the Department of International Studies and Interpreting, at Faculty of Teacher Education and International Studies, at Oslo Metropolitan University, there is a vacancy for a fully funded three-year postdoctoral research fellowship position with a starting date between August and October 2021.

The research focus

Applicants must provide a detailed proposal for research to be carried out in the fellowship period. The proposal must be between 4 and 6 pages long and must include a plan for publications. DISCO is looking for a postdoctoral fellow who will work closely with the researchers in the core group of the centre and it is strongly recommended that applicants pay close attention to both the organization and the main research themes of DISCO as set out on the webpage. Please see https://www.oslomet.no/en/disco, and contact Professor Torkel Brekke for more information.

Although diversity is understood broadly in DISCO, we expect research proposals to be specific in the operationalization of the concept in empirical research. We are seeking a candidate who will work empirically, which means that we will not consider candidates whose research focus is primarily on normative perspectives, such as political and moral philosophy. Moreover, we will not consider applicants who are chiefly concerned with diversity policies in business organizations. The methods to be used can be qualitative and/or quantitative and may range from historical work and ethnographic fieldwork to big data and machine learning. However, the proposal must show that the research design is feasible.

While we are open to a research proposal that has its empirical focus in any part of the world, we prefer candidates who can show that the suggested research is of relevance to questions of diversity in Norway. Comparative projects are welcome.

The aim of a postdoctoral fellowship is for the candidate to work towards further academic qualification.
