Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.

The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.

The Department of Art, Design and Drama (EST) is developing rapidly and is facing exciting changes in the next few years. The department has approximately 900 students and 58 employees. We offer study programmes at bachelor's and master's level in design, arts and crafts, drama and theatre communication, art dissemination, and fashion and production.

In addition, we have a new PhD program: Innovation for sustainability, and number of further education programmes and practical pedagogical programmes in design, arts and crafts and drama and theatre communication. Most of the study programmes have an element of outreach practical training as an integral part. The department has four research groups and a high level of activity in external activities. This is affiliated with the department's unit for lifelong learning

The Department of Art, Design and Drama at the Faculty of Technology, Art and Design is looking for a candidate to fill a vacancy (60 per cent of full time) as a professor/docent, starting 1 August 2021.

The academic community holds a key position in the fashion discipline and fashion programmes in Norway, and focuses on new technology, cooperation with the fashion sector and other parties in the world of fashion. Through participation in networks and organisation of research conferences, the academic community has also left its mark at an international level.

The faculty has a strong focus on research and development. A number of active research groups have been established at the Department of Art, Design and Drama. The person appointed is expected to carry out research, publish and participate in the development of fashion research and development.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Teaching and supervising students at all levels of the programme
  • Course responsibility for the programme option Fashion and Society
  • Participating in research activity and development of the department’s teaching activities
  • Participating/leading research groups in the department and work on applications for external research funding
  • Exchanging experience and guiding colleagues
  • Take initiative to develop major new research projects and applications for external funding
  • Initiating and developing research collaborations with national and international partners

Qualification requirements

  • Professor or docent qualifications in Fashion and Society
  • For Professor position: relevant doctoral degree
  • Master’s degree in fashion or equivalent
  • High qualifications in the field’s theories, historical development and significance for the individual, industry and society in an international perspective
  • Knowledge of design and production and its importance in a socio-ethical and sustainable perspective
  • Good oral and written presentation skills in English and in a Scandinavian language are required. Applicants who do not have sufficient knowledge of Scandinavian must have acquired Norwegian knowledge corresponding to level B2 within three years of commencement. Courses are offered at OsloMet.

Desired skills

  • Document relevant educational theory and practice for higher education.

The applicant must document extensive research and development work at a high level aimed at the professional field and relevant practical-pedagogical competence on the basis of education or teaching and guidance.

Practical information about relocation to Oslo and living in Norway

 The position is remunerated in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for the Civil Service and OsloMets salary policy Professor, code1031/docent, code 1532. The salary is NOK 708 000 – 910 00 per year in 100% position. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well qualified applicants.
