Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.

The Faculty of Health Sciences consists of five departments and offers study programmes on all levels, including PhD. The faculty has about 6000 students and nearly 600 members of staff.

There is a vacancy for a permanent full-time position as an associate professor (førsteamanuensis or førstelektor) at the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Department of Physiotherapy. The position is vacant from 1 May 2021.

The Department of Physiotherapy offers bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes in physiotherapy and a master’s degree programme in rehabilitation and habilitation, as well as several further education programmes.
Extensive research activity is conducted at the department, and several research groups have been established.
The Faculty of Health Sciences has two PhD programmes, one in behavioural analysis and one in health sciences.

Tasks and responsibilities


• develop and plan courses and study programmes at bachelor’s level with a student-active profile
• develop practical training as an integral part of the education programme and contribute to good cooperation with the professional field
• teaching and supervision at master’s degree and PhD level also be expected
• student administrative tasks
• actively contribute to the development of high-quality education
• actively contribute to the development of the department and OsloMet as a whole
• engage in research activity that strengthens the lines of communication between R&D, education and the professional field
• participate in research groups and research projects

Qualification requirements

• Persons appointed to a associate professor (førsteamanuensis) position must have a relevant master’s degree and a PhD degree in the health field.
The applicant must document relevant educational competence. The criteria for the assessment of such competence are set out in OsloMet’s guidelines for the assessment of educational competence, which can be read here.
• Persons appointed to a associate professor (førstelektor) position must have a pre-1990 university degree approximately equivalent to a master's degree ('embetseksamen'), a degree at second-degree level under the pre-2003 system (‘hovedfag’) or a master’s degree, as well as documented extensive research and development work that in quality and scope corresponds to the workload and level of a doctoral thesis.
• a bachelor’s degree in physiotherapy and Norwegian authorisation as a physiotherapist
• minimum five years' recent experience as a physiotherapist from different levels in the health service
• experience of health-promoting and preventive work at system and group level
• good oral and written presentation skills in a Scandinavian language and English
• experience of project and research cooperation nationally and internationally
• experience of teaching and supervision at university/university college level
• good digital skills and experience of handling different digital tools and systems

• Applicants must document basic competence in teaching and supervision at university and university college level. Applicants who are unable to document basic university teaching qualifications upon appointment must achieve such qualifications within two years. OsloMet offers a course in university pedagogy (UHPED) that meets this requirement.

It is an advantage if you also have

• experience from work life oriented rehabilitation and/or public health work in healthy life centres or similar
• an interest in and experience of creating student-active teaching activities, including digital learning resources and learning activities
• varied experience of teaching and supervision at different levels
• an interest in practical training as an important arena for students’ skills development
• experience of epidemiological research
• documented teaching qualifications
• scientific publications in national and international journals
• national and international research networks

The salary for the position is in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for state employees and OsloMet’s pay policy for position code 1011, førsteamanuensis or 1198, førstelektor, pay grade 60–74, i.e. NOK 535,200-694,400. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
