Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. The Faculty of Health Sciences consists of five departments and offers study programmes on all levels, including PhD. The faculty has about 6000 students and nearly 600 members of staff.

Do you have good expertise in the field of practice and want to contribute to strengthening research and education in the field of occupational therapy?

The Department of Occupational Therapy, Prosthetics and Orthotics has vacancies for two permanent full-time associate professors/assistant professors (førsteamanuensis/førstelektor/universitetslektor) in occupational therapy. The positions are currently available.

We are looking for colleagues with expertise in and close contact with the field of practice who can help to strengthen research and teaching in occupational therapy. A new RETHOS programme description was implemented this autumn, and the programme will offer new practical training courses from spring 2021. These positions are intended to help to strengthen collaboration between education and the field of practice and develop new cooperation models for tomorrow’s professional practice.

The Department of Occupational Therapy, Prosthetics and Orthotics is one of the faculty’s five departments. The department offers two bachelor’s degree programmes, one master’s degree programme in occupational therapy, a further education programme in occupational therapy in primary health care, and an interdisciplinary further education programme in welfare technology. The department is also responsible for coordinating the Motion Analysis Laboratory, which is an inter-faculty laboratory.

Tasks and responsibilities:

• teaching and supervision in theory, skills training and practical training in the field of occupational therapy
• teaching and supervision at bachelor’s and master’s level
• developing, implementing and evaluating courses
• strengthening research activity in the field through research, publication and dissemination
• contributing to obtaining external research funding together with colleagues in the academic community
• taking the initiative to and further developing research and development collaborations with national and international partners in practical training, education and research in the field.

Qualification requirements:

We are ideally looking for persons with associate professor (førsteamanuensis) qualifications, but we also encourage applicants with associate professor or assistant professor (førstelektor/universitetslektor) qualifications to apply.
Research fellows in the final stage of their PhDs are encouraged to apply

• Persons appointed to a associate professor (førsteamanuensis) position must hold a PhD in occupational therapy. The applicant must document relevant educational competence. The criteria for the assessment of such competence are set out in OsloMet’s guidelines for the assessment of educational competence.

• Persons appointed to a associate professor (førstelektor) position must have a pre-1990 university degree approximately equivalent to a master's degree ('embetseksamen'), a degree at second degree level under the pre-2003 system (‘hovedfag’) or a relevant master’s degree, as well as documented extensive research and development work that in quality and scope corresponds to the workload and level of a doctoral thesis.

• Persons appointed to an assistant professor (universitetslektor) position must have a relevant master’s degree and an interest in academic development.

We also require:

• Norwegian authorisation as an occupational therapist and good knowledge of the field of practice in Norway
• good oral and written communication skills

• Applicants must document basic competence in teaching and supervision at university and university college level. Applicants who are unable to document basic university teaching qualifications upon appointment must achieve such qualifications within two years. OsloMet offers a programme in university pedagogy (UHPED) that meets this requirement.
• Good oral and written presentation skills in English are required. Applicants who do not have adequate proficiency in a Scandinavian language upon appointment must acquire Norwegian skills corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of appointment.

General criteria for appointment to teaching and research positions are set out in the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts.

• experience of writing applications with verifiable results
• sound digital competence and experience of digital learning methods
• networks in Norway and abroad

Personal qualities required for the position:

We are looking for innovative candidates with great enthusiasm for the subject area. It is also important that you have good collaboration skills and are good at building relations with students, colleagues and external partners.
Teaching and supervision is a big part of the position, and it is important that you have good communication skills and the ability to inspire and motivate people.

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for state employees, position code 1011, associate professor (førsteamanuensis). The salary for the position is NOK 532,300– 691,400 per year at pay grade 60-74. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants. Alternatively, 1009 assistant professor (universitetslektor), with a salary of NOK 456,400-594,400 per year at pay grade 51-66.
