The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.

The Department of Built Environment offers bachelors and master’s degree programs in engineering, in addition to research and development activities. The department has approximately 60 staff members and 850 students.

There are currently several active research groups at the Department of Civil Engineering and Energy Technology. The Department is actively involved in the PhD program in Engineering Science. You can find more information about the department at here.  

Area of research

The Department of Civil Engineering and Energy Technology currently has an opening for a temporary Postdoctoral Fellow position in the field of ‘Machine Learning Applications in Structural Health Monitoring’ in a period of 2 years, with a possibility to be extended.

The Postdoctoral fellow will be part of the research project “NEAR: Next Generation Finite Element Calibration Methods for Railway Bridges” which is funded by Bane NOR. The project will be conducted in collaboration with Bane NOR, NTNU and University of Oslo. The Postdoctoral fellow’s main task will be developing machine learning models that will be used to calibrate finite element models for railway bridges that can reliably estimate the maximum accelerations due to train loads.

Tasks and responsibilities:

The candidate will focus on the NEAR project but is expected to contribute to relevant research at the department. The position will be for a period of two years with a possibility for extension.

Qualifications requirements:

  • PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Structural Engineering or related fields with specialization in one or more of the following:
    • o Machine Learning
    • o Signal Processing
    • o Artificial Intelligience
    • o Data Management and Processing
    • o Structural Health Monitoring
  • A relevant publication record
  • Ability to conduct independent research
  • Experience with programming and scripting languages
  • Proficiency in oral and written English is required

The position is remunerated in accordance with the Norwegian State salary scale 60-74, job code 1352 Postdoctoral Research Fellow. The salary is NOK 532 300 – 691 400 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
