Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.

The Department of Computer Science offers three bachelor’s degree programmes, a master’s degree programme, and is part of a cross-departmental PhD program. Academic staff at the department are pursuing research in a wide range of areas including computer science, the natural sciences, and innovation and management. Both students and researchers are also involved in an increasing number of interdisciplinary initiatives across the university.

The department of Computer Science has approximately 70 staff members and 800 students.

There are currently several research groups at the Department.

A temporary Postdoctoral Fellow position in the field of ‘Machine Learning and text mining’ is offered for the period of 2 years in the Department of Computer Science at Oslo Metropolitan University.

The candidate will work on a project entitled “Machine Learning-based systems for the automation of systematic literature reviews in food safety domain” funded by the EEA and Norway Grants. The project is a collaboration between different partners including Warsaw University of Technology, the Norwegian Institute of Public Health and Oslo Metropolitan University.

The project addresses developing Artificial Intelligence based tools that would reduce the use of time and human resources in the area of Systematic Literature Review (SLR).

The main duty of the candidate is to develop an Artificial Intelligence based tool for use of citation networks for integrated literature search and appraisal using Open Source and proprietary software. This will be achieved through specific objectives as follows:

  • Integrating criteria used in the tool such as keywords and inclusion and exclusion criteria.
  • Developing a crawling tool to extract a citation network from a research database based on manually identified seed articles.
  • Developing graph theoretical based ranking metrics to identify relevant literature based on citation network.
  • Developing a tool to generate a library of relevant literature.
  • Preliminary evaluation of the sensitivity and specificity of the tool
  • Revising the tool to address the issues identified in the preliminary evaluation if needed

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Research on the state of the art of automation of systematic literature
  • Conduct experiments using machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques
  • Disseminate the projects results and outcome through appropriate channels
  • Help administrative requirements as a project partner

Qualifications requirements:

  • PhD degree in Computer Science or Engineering related subjects with experience in one or more of the following:
    • Machine learning/deep learning
    • Statistics / applied mathematics
    • Text mining/natural language processing
    • Artificial Intelligence
    • Software development
    • Human Computer Interaction
  • Ability to conduct independent research
  • Proficiency in oral and written English is required

Practical information about relocation to Oslo and living in Norway

The position is remunerated in accordance with the Norwegian State salary scale 60-74, job code 1352 Postdoctoral Research Fellow. The salary is NOK 532 300 – 691 400 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
