Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.

The Faculty of Health Sciences consists of five departments and offers study programmes on all levels, including PhD. The faculty has about 6000 students and nearly 600 members of staff.

Department of Nursing and Health Promotion is located at all three campus: Kjeller, Pilestredet and Sandvika. The department has approximately 3000 students and 250 employees.

The Institute of Nursing and Health Promotion, has a permanent vacancy for a professor in the field of Anesthesiology Nursing.

The position is currently affiliated to the advanced clinical programme and master's programme in anesthesiology nursing. However, teaching at other programs at the Institute might be required. The candidate appointed is also expected to participate in the development of the research qualifications of doctoral students and colleagues.

Extensive research activity is conducted at the institute, which has many research groups. The Faculty of Health Sciences has currently two PhD programmes.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • conducting research and disseminating research results in the field of anesthesiology nursing
  • initiating and contributing to applications for externally funded research
  • lecturing in the institute's programmes, supervising students and grading assignments
  • lecturing in the faculty’s PhD programme, and supervising PhD students
  • developing national and international cooperation with new and established partners in the field
  • contributing to the development of the research group of acute and critically ill patients
  • develop cooperation across the institutes/departments at the university

Qualification requirements

We are looking for candidates who have

  • professor qualifications in anesthesiology nursing
  • experience with research networks, and project management involving external funding
  • academic leadership skills
  • recent clinical experience
  • proficiency in oral and written English. Applicants who do not have adequate proficiency in a Scandinavian language, must acquire Norwegian skills corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of commencement

In selecting the correct appointee, emphasis will be placed on the candidate's overall academic production, and the person appointed must have academic qualifications in one of more of the following fields:

  • research focusing on anesthesiology nursing and/or nursing of critically ill patients
  • patient safety with particular emphasis on anesthesiology nursing
  • leadership and organisation of health care services to acute and critically ill patients

The applicant must document relevant qualifications of relevance for higher education. Applicants who are unable to document basic teaching qualifications on appointment, must acquire these qualifications within two years. OsloMet offers a course on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (UHPED) in English, together with the University of Oslo, that meets this requirement.

General criteria for appointments to academic positions are covered by the Regulations for appointment and promotion to academic posts.

The following will be an advantage:

  • demonstrated an ability to secure external funding for research Projects
  • leadership experience or have participated in national and international research networks
  • ongoing research activity and recent scientific publications in the field of anesthesiology nursing
  • emphasis will be placed on scientific production from the last six years
  • clinical experience and practice from anesthesiology
  • experience of development and use of digital learning tools

The position is remunerated in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for the Civil Service and OsloMets salary policy, as professor, code 1013. The salary is NOK 704 900 – 906 000 per year.  A higher salary may be considered for particularly well qualified applicants.
