About the position

The Department of Archivistics, Library and Information Science currently has available one PhD fellow 3-year fixed-term position affiliated with the PhD program in Library and Information Science. The position is associated to the research project Improving trust-based management in Nordic urban governance and management education (MANAGEMENTTRUST) funded by the Research Council of Norway. The project is a collaboration between Oslo Business School, the Department of Archivistics, Library and Information Science, the Work Research Institute (AFI), Norwegian Social Research (NOVA), Oslo Municipality, Aarhus University (Denmark), and Aarhus Municipality (Denmark).

Profile

The PhD Fellow position is part of the research project MANAGEMENTTRUST, a 12 million NOK project funded by The Research Council of Norway in the PROFESJON programme. The project explores how an ongoing trust-based management reform, sometimes called the new Nordic model of governance, is conceptualised and put into practice in the educational and elder care sectors of two major Nordic cities. The highly interdisciplinary project has three main goals:

  1. to develop a conceptual framework for understanding new models of trust-based management in the public sector
  2. to investigate how large, complex organizations such as urban municipal governments conceive of and implement trust-based management
  3. to ensure that management education is not just aligned with, but also actively shaping and influencing, the new trust-based management reforms in public sector organizations

The PhD Fellow is to collaborate with the team of senior researchers and a postdoc to reach the overall goals by mainly focusing on the role and characteristics of vertical and horizontal flows of steering information within the studied contexts, and their relation to organizational change towards trust-based management. Whereas the primary research approach is preferably qualitative for information flow study, the project applies mixed methods.

Applicants must prepare a project proposal of relevance to the above outlined part of the project. The successful applicant will be an integrated member of the research team and relevant research groups at the two collaborating departments, Oslo Business School and the Department of Archivistics, Library and Information Science, at the Faculty of Social Sciences at OsloMet.

The PhD fellowship period is three years without teaching obligation.
