The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.

The Department of Computer Science offers three bachelor’s degree programmes, a master’s degree programme, and is part of a cross-departmental PhD program. Academic staff at the department are pursuing research in a wide range of areas including computer science, the natural sciences, and innovation and management. Both students and researchers are also involved in an increasing number of interdisciplinary initiatives across the university.

The Department of Computer Science has a vacancy for a permanent position as Associate Professor in Sustainable Transition.

We are looking for a candidate with a talent and a passion for teaching, research and innovation. Candidates will be expected to have taught and conducted research in the field of sustainable transition, social informatics or closely related fields.

Candidates will be expected to actively strengthen and shape the academic and research work at the department and the university's research community in general, including interdisciplinary work across departments at the Faculty for Technology, Arts and Design, with other faculties and research centres at OsloMet, and other higher education institutions in Norway.

The candidate will be expected to teach a series of interdisciplinary courses on sustainable transitions as well as the impact of technology and digitalization on society (in particular the Technology and Society course for bachelor students and life-long learning students).

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Planning, developing and delivering courses at Bachelor, Master and PhD level, and courses withinthe realm of lifelong learning education. This includes teaching, supervision and assessment
  • Planning, developing and delivering the Technology and Society course portfolio
  • Actively contributing to the development of high-quality education.
  • Actively contributing to the development of the department and the rest of OsloMet.
  • Communicating and disseminating research results both in academic settings and for the generalpublic.
  • Performing administrative tasks related to educational, research and innovation activities.
  • Initiating and conducting research within sustainable transition, social informatics and related fields.
  • Take initiative to develop new research projects and applications for external funding
  • Initiating and developing research collaborations with national and international partners.

Qualifications requirements:

  • PhD in Informatics, Computer Science, or Information Systems, preferably on a topic relevant to Sustainable Transitions
  • Documented research work and publications within the fields of Sustainable Transitions, Information Systems, Digital Transformation or related fields
  • Experience with developing online courses and digital teaching resources
  • Experience with interdisciplinary research and teaching
  • The applicant must document relevant educational theory and practice for higher education. Applicants whoare unable to document basic teaching qualifications on appointment, must acquire these qualifications within two years. OsloMet offers a course on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (UHPED), in English together with the University of Oslo, that meets this requirement.
  • Proficiency in oral and writtenEnglish is required. Applicants who do not have adequate proficiency in a Scandinavian language, must acquire Norwegian skills corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of commencement.

  • Excellent cooperation and communication skills
  • Excellent public-speaking skills and experience speaking to non-academic audiences
  • Inquisitiveness, and a keenness to develop as an academic
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt teaching and research to the needs of OsloMet and the department, including interdisciplinary collaboration
  • The ability to build communities and networks, research projects, and to demonstrate fresh thinking and innovation
  • Experience from industry

  • A text (up to 2 pages) outlining your relevant research and plans for research activity in the position (“research statement”). This overview should include an overview of existing projects and research collaborators.

The position is remunerated in accordance with the Norwegian State salary scale 60-74, job code 1011 Associate Professor. The salary is NOK 532 300 – 691 400 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
