The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.

The Department of Computer Science offers three bachelor’s degree programmes, a master’s degree programme, and is part of a cross-departmental PhD program. Academic staff at the department are pursuing research in a wide range of areas including computer science, the natural sciences, and innovation and management. Both students and researchers are also involved in an increasing number of interdisciplinary initiatives across the university.

The Department of Computer Science has a vacancy for a new position as Head of Academic Group (50 % position), with an additional position as a 50 % position as Associate Professor. The Head of Academic Group position is a fixed-term position for 4 years, with possibility for extension. The maximum amount of consecutive years in a Head of Academic Group position is 12. After the end of the fixed-term management position, the Associate Professor position will be extended to a 100 % position.

We are looking for a candidate with a talent and a passion for higher education, research and innovation. Candidates will be expected to have conducted research in one or more of the following fields: Computer Science, Informatics, Information Systems, Cybernetics, Machine Learning, Computational Neuroscience, Natural Language Processing, Data Science, Applied Statistics, Digital Transformation or closely related fields. The research should be reflected in relevant publications. In addition, we are looking for candidates who have a passion for leading and developing individuals and teams.

Candidates will be expected to actively strengthen and strategically shape the academic and research work at the department and the university's research community in general, including interdisciplinary work across departments at the Faculty for Technology, Arts Design and with other faculties and research centres at OsloMet.

Tasks and responsibilities as Head of group:

  • Personnel management for the Artificial Intelligence Academic Group.
  • Joint leadership responsibility for the department in collaboration with the other group leaders and the Head of Department.
  • Coordinating research and innovation activities with the research group leaders and the research administration.
  • Actively contributing to the development of high-quality education.
  • Actively contributing to the development of the Department and the rest of OsloMet.
  • The Head of the Artificial Intelligence academic group is part of the management team at the Department of Computer Science and is expected to represent the group and the department both within and outside of OsloMet.

 

Tasks and responsibilities as Associate Professor:

  • Initiating and conducting research within a field relevant to the Department’s profile.
  • Communicating and disseminating research results both in academic settings and for the general public.
  • Planning, developing and delivering courses at PhD, Master and Bachelor level, and courses within the realm of lifelong learning education, including teaching, supervision, and assessment.
  • Performing administrative tasks related to educational, research and innovation activities.

Qualifications requirements:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Informatics, Information Systems, Cybernetics, Machine Learning, Computational Neuroscience, Natural Language Processing, Data Science, Applied Statistics, Digital Transformation or closely related fields.
  • Management experience, preferably from higher education contexts
  • Documented research work and publications within an academic field relevant to the Department’s profile
  • Experience with research networks, and project management involving external funding
  • Experience from international research collaboration
  • Experience with:
    • quality development in own teaching and supervision over time
    • experience with supervision
    • participation in the development of educational quality in professional communities
  • The applicant must document relevant educational theory and practice for higher education. Applicants who are unable to document basic teaching qualifications on appointment, must acquire these qualifications within two years. OsloMet offers a course on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (UHPED) that meets this requirement.
  • Proficiency in oral and written English and Norwegian or one Scandinavian language is required.

Practical information about relocation to Oslo and living in Norway

The position is remunerated in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for the Civil Service and OsloMets salary policy Head of studies 1473. The salary is NOK 679 000-765 100 per year, and job code 1011 Associate Professor. The salary is NOK 532 300 – 691 400 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well qualified applicants.
