Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.

The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.

The Department of Built Environment offers bachelors and master’s degree programs in engineering, in addition to research and development activities. The department has approximately 60 staff members and 850 students.

The Department of Civil Engineering and Energy Technology wants to strengthen the management of the department. We therefore seek an enthusiastic, enterprising and development-oriented Head of Studies in Energy and Environment in Buildings constituting 50% constituting 50% of a full-time position, with the remaining 50% of the full-time position devoted to academic tasks: research and teaching. The position reports to the Head of Department and will be part of the management team at the Department.

The Head of Studies will be assigned in a four-year fixed term position, with an opportunity to extend for further periods, with a maximum of three consecutive 4-year periods or for an equivalent period of twelve years. After the end of the fixed term period, the position will change to a permanent 100% position as Associate Professor in Structural Engineering.

  • Manager for employees in the team in consultation with the Head of Department
  • Develop individual work plans and distribution of tasks
  • Participate in the preparation and implementation of the department’s strategy
  • Develop and follow up the studies’ educational quality, including preparing program plans, assessing new topics and adapting the studies to the needs of the market and society
  • Be a contact point in student affairs
  • Participate in the department’s planning, budgeting and reporting work
  • The Head of Studies will have a limited budget responsibility and will be responsible for carrying out the business in their area in accordance with adopted strategies and goals

 

Tasks and responsibilities as Associate Professor:

  • Teach and supervise Bachelor`s, Master`s and PhD students and possibly lifelong-learning courses students
  • Contact business partners and government or public institutions
  • Contributing to the continued development of the academic community and the department’s study programmes
  • Carry out your own research and development
  • Academic-administrative tasks
  • Active contribution to the development of a high-quality education
  • Active contribution to the development of the department, and OsloMet in general
  • Disseminating research results to academic communities, and to society in general
  • Participate in the development of major new research projects and applications for external funding together with colleagues at OsloMet and beyond
  • Participate in research collaboration with national and international partners

Qualification requirements:

  • PhD in structural engineering or related fields (structural analysis and design, computational mechanics, earthquake engineering, fatigue etc.)
  • The candidate must have competence in one of the following areas:
    • o Analysis and design of concrete, timber and/or steel structures according to the Eurocodes
    • o Numerical analysis and/or optimization and/or machine learning within the broader field of structural engineering
  • Documented research work and publications within the broader topic of structural engineering
  • The applicant must document relevant educational theory and practice for higher education. Applicants who are unable to document basic teaching qualifications on appointment, must acquire these qualifications within two years.
  • Proficiency in oral and written English and a Scandinavian language is required.
  • Experience with and good understanding of financial management and personnel management. Management experience will be highly emphasized
  • Good knowledge of the current Norwegian regulations; Universitets- og høgskoleloven, Arbeidsmiljøloven and other relevant law and regulations

  • Experience in using FEA software such as ABAQUS, ANSYS, LS-DYNA or similar
  • Proven track record in initiating and managing research and development work
  • Experience from laboratory work
  • Teaching and supervision experience from different degree levels
  • Experience with development of education

  • Experience from working with and in industry/public administration within structural engineering

Practical information about relocation to Oslo and living in Norway

The position is remunerated in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for the Civil Service and OsloMets salary policy Head of studies 1473. The salary is NOK 679 000-765 100 per year, and job code 1011 Associate Professor. The salary is NOK 532 300 – 691 400 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well qualified applicants.
