The Faculty of Education and International Studies (LUI) has approximately 550 employees and 7000 students and is located in Oslo and Akershus. The Faculty is comprised of four departments as well as the National Centre of Multicultural Education (NAFO). The Faculty educates tomorrow’s teachers from kindergarten through upper secondary school, in close cooperation with the field of practical training. The Faculty offers a PhD in Education. In addition, the Faculty offers development studies and studies in sign language and interpreting. Diversity is a core value for the Faculty and its activities. The Faculty’s research and development focuses on practical training and is both profession-oriented and internationally oriented.

The Department of Primary and Secondary Teacher Education (GFU) has strong research communities within the field of school subjects, educational science, and digital competence, and educates teachers for the Norwegian school system in close cooperation with the field of practical training. The Department offers studies on bachelor and master level, and contributes to the general development of skills for school employees through continuing and further education.

The Department of Primary and Secondary Teacher Education at the Faculty of Education and International Studies has a temporary vacancy for an Associate Professor in Educational Theory for the period 01.08.20-31.12.20.

The Department of Primary and Secondary Teacher Education is in the middle of implementing five-year master’s degree programmes for primary and secondary teachers and developing school development projects. We are looking for capable and committed colleagues to help us to achieve our ambitions.

Tasks and responsibilities:

• Teaching and supervision at bachelor’s and master’s level, and in connection with courses in continuing education
• Following up students in their practical training
• Contributing to the work of further developing the academic community and the department’s study programmes
• Actively contributing to the development of high quality education
• Disseminating research both to academic communities and society in general
• Liaising with schools and school owners
• Actively contributing to the development of the department and OsloMet as a whole
• Performing academic-administrative tasks

Qualification requirements:
Persons appointed to Associate Professor (førsteamanuensis) must have a doctorate degree in Educational Theory.

Persons appointed to Associate Professor (førstelektor) must have a university degree equivalent to a master’s degree in Educational Theory, and documented extensive research and development work that in quality and scope corresponds to the workload and level of a doctorate degree.

The applicant must document relevant educational theory and practice for higher education.

Proficiency in oral and written English and a Scandinavian language is required.

If, due to a lack of applicants or for other reasons, it is not possible to hire in the position of Associate Professor, it may be relevant to hire in the position of University Lecturer (universitetslektor). In this case, applicants who have started the process of qualifying for the position of Associate Professor will be prioritised. Candidates who are appointed as University Lecturer must have a degree equivalent to a master’s degree within a relevant field.

General criteria for appointments to academic positions are covered by the Regulations for appointment and promotion to academic posts.

In the assessment and ranking of qualified applicants, emphasis will be placed on:

• Documented relevant teaching qualifications/teaching experience from work in primary and secondary school, upper secondary school, and/or teacher education
• Teaching qualifications related to experience and practical knowledge of one or several of the following areas:
  - educational sciences and classroom management
  - diversity
  - inclusion
  - adapted training
  - initial education
  - assessment
  - bullying/life skills
• Research and development work of relevance to the position
• Experience of research networks and externally funded projects
• Good knowledge of the Norwegian school system
• Teaching and supervision experience at different degree levels
• Teaching skills
• Good digital skills
• Strong ability to communicate and cooperate with students and colleagues
• Personal qualities that can make positive contributions to the working environment

Personal qualities necessary for the position:

• Ability to motivate and inspire students
• Good communication skills and the ability to cooperate with students and colleagues
• A collective orientation with a focus on development and quality
• Ability to handle a varied workload at a high tempo

The position is remunerated in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for the Civil Service and OsloMets salary policy as Associate Professor (førsteamanuensis/førstelektor) position code 1011/1198. The salary is from NOK 532 300,- to 691 400,- per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well qualified applicants.
