Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.
The Faculty of Health Sciences consists of five departments and offers study programmes on all levels, including PhD. The faculty has about 6000 students and nearly 600 members of staff.
There is a vacancy as a research fellow in a fixed-term position affiliated to the research group ‘Aging, Health and Welfare’ at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Physiotherapy.
The research fellowship period is three years without a teaching obligation.
Area of Research
A lot of resources have been invested in health research, and a question that can be raised is: How do the patients or users benefit from the research? Translation research translates the results of research into clinically relevant knowledge.
According to WHO, knowledge translation has emerged as a paradigm to tackle many of the challenges and to start closing the ‘know-do’ gap. One definition of knowledge translation is: 'the synthesis, exchange, and application of knowledge by relevant stakeholders to accelerate the benefits of global and local innovation in strengthening health systems and improving people’s health'.
It is in the interests of the health professions, patients, decision-makers and the general public that the health service’s decisions are based on the best research available. However, different attitudes, views on knowledge, and cultural and organisational factors create barriers for the implementation of research in practice. This gap creates different practical, scientific and political challenges, both in Norway and internationally, in the field of fall prevention.
The research group Aging, Health and Welfare seeks to reduce the gap between research and practice, which is why the focus for the vacancy in the PhD project is:
Barriers and facilitators to adherence to the prioritised recommendations in Evidence-based practice (EBP) fall prevention.
Which recommendations from EBP guidelines, review and metaanalysis should be prioritized in a fall prevention programme?
What factors determine whether and how health care providers, multiprofessional teams and the health system will continue to sustain, spread, or substitute a new strategy to implement an EBP fall prevention programme?
What are the structural, organizational and economic conditions that inhibit and promote comprehensive and integrated patient and user progress that contribute to ensuring sustainable health and welfare services as well as reducing unwarranted variation and undesirable priorities regarding fall prevention?
Tailoring implementation interventions
Investigate whether a full scale cluster randomised trial can be conducted in the way it is planned, develop tailored implementation interventions lasting for one month that address identified determinants for adherence to the prioritised recommendations in the fall prevention and to perform a small scale single-armed study to test the feasibility of procedures and methods for the tailored implementation interventions for later use in the full cluster RCT.
The main goal of the advertised PhD projects is:
to develop and evaluate innovative research-based tailored interventions to implement an evidence based fall-prevention programme in the health, care and welfare services in the municipalities of Norway, highlighting interdisciplinary competency, efficiency and sustainability and ensuring good patient and user pathways based on the users’ needs.
The sub-goals are:
On this background, the research group Aging, Health and Welfare is advertising two research fellow positions affiliated to the project ‘Implementation of evidence based fall-prevention programmes in the health care services: Quality, competency and effectiveness (FALLPREVENT)
