Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.

The Department of Art, Design and Drama (EST) is developing rapidly and is facing exciting changes in the next few years. The department has approximately 900 students and 58 employees. We offer study programmes at bachelor's and master's level in design, arts and crafts, drama and theatre communication, art dissemination, and fashion and production.

In addition, we have a new PhD program: Innovation for sustainability, and number of further education programmes and practical pedagogical programmes in design, arts and crafts and drama and theatre communication. Most of the study programmes have an element of outreach practical training as an integral part. The department has four research groups and a high level of activity in external activities. This is affiliated with the department's unit for lifelong learning

The department of Art, Design and Drama is looking for an Associate professor/Assistant professor to take up a 70% permanent position vacant from 1 May 2020 connected to teaching and supervising art dissemination/design history/art history. The hired candidate is also expected to work on developing new projects in continuing education and digitalization. Some teaching may take place at evenings and on weekends. The position is connected to the department’s unit for innovation and competence development

Tasks and responibilities

  • teaching and supervision of design history/art history/art dissemination at all levels of education at the department
  • contribute to cooperation with society and the employment sector, and supervising students in periods of work training
  • participate in developing the departments study programs, teaching activities and methods
  • participate in research activity and development at the department and at OsloMet as a whole
  • initiate and develop collaborations for continuing education with national and international partners
  • some administrative tasks in connection with the main duties

Qualification requirements

  • competence primarily as an associate professor, alternatively assistant professor, in the relevant fields
  • documented skills in planning, conducting, evaluating and developing of teaching and supervision
  • ability to use a variety of teaching methods, including digital methods
  • relevant documented educational theory and practice for higher education. Applicants who are unable to document basic teaching qualifications on appointment, must acquire these qualifications within two years. OsloMet offers a course on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (UHPED), in English together with the University of Oslo, that meets this requirement.
  • experience from developing and conducting externally funded R&D projects and applications
  • proficiency in oral and written English as well as in a Scandinavian language is required. Applicants who do not have adequate proficiency in a Scandinavian language, must acquire Norwegian skills corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of commencement.

Practical information about relocation to Oslo and living in Norway

The position is remunerated in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for the Civil Service and OsloMets salary policy: 1011 Associate professor / 1008 Assistant professor. The salary is NOK 532 300 - 691 400 / 456 400 - 594 400 per year for a 100% possition. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well qualified applicants.
