The Faculty of Education and International Studies (LUI) has approximately 550 employees and 7000 students and is located in Oslo and Akershus. The Faculty is comprised of four departments as well as the National Centre of Multicultural Education (NAFO). The Faculty educates tomorrow’s teachers from kindergarten through upper secondary school, in close cooperation with the field of practical training. The Faculty offers a PhD in Education. In addition, the Faculty offers development studies and studies in sign language and interpreting. Diversity is a core value for the Faculty and its activities. The Faculty’s research and development focuses on practical training and is both profession-oriented and internationally oriented.

The Department of Primary and Secondary Teacher Education (GFU) has strong research communities within the field of school subjects, educational science, and digital competence, and educates teachers for the Norwegian school system in close cooperation with the field of practical training. The Department offers studies on bachelor and master level, and contributes to the general development of skills for school employees through continuing and further education.

The Department of Primary- and Secondary Teacher Education has vacancies for up to five Associate Professors in mathematics education – up to three permanent and two temporary, with appointment from 01.08.20. For temporary position the appointment last until 31.07.21.

If, due to a lack of applicants or for other reasons, it is not possible to hire a position as associate professor, it may be relevant to hire a position as a university lecturer. Preferably, these will be applicants who have begun qualifying for associate professor.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Teaching and supervising at bachelor's, master’s and PhD level and, if relevant, continuing and further education programmes
• Carrying out own research and development work (there is limited possibilities for own research for the two temporary positions)
• Participating in the development of major new research projects and applications for external funding together with colleagues at OsloMet and beyond
• Participating in research collaborations with national and international partners
• Following up students in practical training
• Contributing to the work of further developing of the academic community and the department’s study programmes
• Actively contributing to the development of a high-quality education
• Disseminating research results to academic community as well as to society in general
• Contact with the professional field
• Actively contributing to the development of the department and OsloMet in general
• Academic-administrative tasks

Qualification requirements

Persons appointed to Associate Professor must have a doctorate degree with relevance for mathematic/mathematic education or have a university degree equivalent to a master's degree and documented extensive research and development work that in quality and scope corresponds to the workload and level of a doctorate degree.

Persons appointed to Assistant Professor must have completed education at the master's level (or equivalent) in mathematics/mathematics education from a university, college or equivalent within the relevant field of study.

For all the positions:

The applicant must document relevant educational theory and practice for higher education. Applicants who are unable to document basic teaching qualifications on appointment, must acquire these qualifications within two years. OsloMet offers a course on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (UHPED), in English together with the University of Oslo, that meets this requirement.

Proficiency in oral and written English and a Scandinavian language is required.

General criteria for appointments to academic positions are covered by the Regulations for appointment and promotion to academic posts.

The position is remunerated in accordance with the Norwegian State salary scale, position code 1011 (førsteamanuensis)/1198 (førstelektor) and job title Assosiate Professor. The salary is from NOK 532 300,- to 691 400,- per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well qualified applicants.
