The Faculty of Health Sciences consists of five departments and offers study programmes on all levels, including PhD. The faculty has about 6000 students and nearly 600 members of staff.

A fixed-term position is available for a postdoctoral fellow in reproductive biology for a three-year period from 1 October 2019 at the Department of Life Sciences and Health.

Field of Research:
The postdoctoral fellow will work as part of the research group ReproAl on the project ‘Artificial Intelligence - a novel tool in assisted reproduction technology’, funded by the Research Council of Norway (FRIMEDBIO research project). ReproAl consists of researchers from the Department of Life Sciences and Health, the Department of Computer Science, Fertilitetssenteret and SimulaMet. This project will apply artificial intelligence (AI) methods to improve the selection of embryos and spermatozoa for use in assisted reproduction. The project is interdisciplinary, and the group has competence in artificial intelligence, embryology, assisted reproduction, andrology, and cell biology. The project consists of different work packages, comprising of: data gathering, development of machine learning methods for sperm and embryo selection, choice of fertilisation method based on sperm characteristics. A randomised study where the intervention involves AI support in addition to standard treatment will also be conducted. Which work packages will be most central for the postdoctoral fellow depend on his or her skill set. The group collaborates with national and international researchers, and two research fellows will be appointed at OsloMet to carry out their doctorate work within the project.

Qualification requirements:

  • Education in one of the research areas cell biology, medicine, veterinary medicine, or another relevant education
  • PhD in cell biology or medical fields
  • Ability to conduct independent research, documented by publications in international journals
  • Mastery of relevant cell biology research methods
  • Good oral and written English skills

Candidates who are in the final stages of writing their PhD thesis must have submitted their thesis for assessment and had it approved for public defense.

The position is in accordance with the pay scale for state employees, postdoctoral fellow, code 1352. Salary: NOK 532,300–691,400 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
