About the position

The Department of Archivistics, Library and Information Science currently has available one PhD fellow position affiliated With the PhD program in Library and Information Science.

Profile

Digitization has led to extensive changes in records and archiving processes, which are increasingly crossing operational boundaries and the boundaries between the public and private sectors. Information is increasingly reused for many different processes, case handling and services are becoming automated, and the distinction between active and preserved information has become less apparent. Service and operational processes are documented to a greater degree, which results in larger amounts of data being produced, including data that does not necessarily fall under the records and archiving concepts.

An ICT-political goal stated in the report to the Norwegian parliament titled “Digital agenda for Norge” [“Digital Agenda for Norway”] is to have case handling and service provision carried out to greater extent from the perspective of the user.

The overarching research aim of the project is to better understand the consequences of user-oriented digitization and archiving processes. Applicants must prepare a project proposal with a relevant research topic and methodology.

The successful applicant will be an integrated member of the research group Information systems based on metadata (METAINFO), which holds regular meetings and seminars where participants can present and obtain feedback on their research their research.

The duration of the PhD fellowship is three years.

Qualifications and requirements

Required qualifications:

• Education at Master's degree level in a relevant field
• Ability to communicate well in English, both verbally and in writing
• Ability to work independently and be goal oriented
• Passion for the subject area

Desired background:

• Relevant research experience
• Experience in publishing academic works and participation in international seminars/conferences

Conditions:

• The PhD position requires admission to the PhD Programme
• A final plan for the PhD scholarship shall be approved and made contractual no later than 3 months after commencement of the fellowship

When assessing applicants, the project description and the project’s relevance to the PhD program’s research area will be emphasized. The proposal must indicate that the project will realistically lead to a doctoral degree within the three-year period.

The proposal should consist of a maximum of 10 pages and include the following elements:

• Research questions, theory and method
• Relevant knowledge within the research area
• Schedule for the educational and research plan

The salary is set in accordance with the Norwegian State Salary Scale, job code 1017, wage level 54 (NOK 479 600).
