The Faculty of Health Sciences consists of five departments and offers study programmes on all levels, including PhD. The faculty has about 6000 students and nearly 600 members of staff.

Department of Nursing and Health Promotion is located at all three campus: Kjeller, Pilestredet and Sandvika. The department has approximately 3000 students and 250 employees.

The Faculty of Health Sciences, the Department of Nursing and Health Promotion, has a vacancy for the position of associate professor in nursing. We want to strengthen our knowledge areas with a focus on cooperation between healthcare professionals and patients, and on health counselling and educational competence. The position involves duties relating to the Master’s Programme in Nursing- Clinical Research and Professional Development.

You are expected to contribute to the faculty achieving its strategy of quality, robustness and relevance in its study programmes and research. One of our important strategic initiatives is research on teaching activities and how new and varied teaching methods influence learning.

The Faculty of Health Sciences has two PhD programmes, and extensive research activity is conducted by the department’s seven established research groups.

We are looking for an ambitious and motivated member of staff who will contribute to strengthening the academic and educational work at the faculty by engaging in research and development of the academic communities’ research and teaching competence. You must be inquisitive and interested in the work of your colleagues and be ambitious on your students’ behalf. Applicants must have the ability and willingness to engage in interdisciplinary cooperation and be interested in using different methodological and philosophy of science approaches.

Applicants who are qualified for appointment as a professor are encouraged to apply. A formal assessment of the applicants’ qualifications for appointment as a professor will not take place, but it is possible to apply for promotion after being appointed. The academic communities and the organisation perform exciting duties in the fields of education and organisation work. Teaching and supervision of students at all levels and at both campuses must be expected, but the primary workplace will be Pilestredet campus.

Duties of the position

  • initiating and conducting high-quality educational research, publishing and disseminating research results
  • applying for external research funding
  • developing, planning, implementing and evaluating courses at master’s level
  • planning and facilitating teaching using student-active learning methods at bachelor’s, master’s and PhD level
  • supervision of students in project work, in practical training and at the simulation and skills centre
  • contributing to the development of the faculty’s and the department’s national and international academic activities

Qualification requirements

  • relevant doctoral degree
  • interest in various methodologies and with particular competence in quantitative methods
  • experience of knowledge dissemination and supervision of students at university college/university level
  • good oral and written presentation skills in English

Emphasis will be placed on your ability to contribute research of relevance to the study programmes offered.

If you do not master Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, you must undertake to acquire such skills within three years of appointment.

The applicant must be able to document relevant teaching qualifications. Applicants who are unable to document basic teaching qualifications upon appointment, must achieve such qualifications within two years. OsloMet offers a programme in university pedagogy (UHPED) that meets this requirement.

We will emphasise the following

  • experience of applying for funding, initiating, leading and carrying out research projects
  • national and international experience of research and research collaboration and whether you have a research network
  • experience of and/or interest in the development and use of varied learning methods, including student-active and digital tools in teaching
  • degree in nursing
  • recent clinical experience
  • good communication skills and the ability to inspire and supervise candidates and colleagues
  • good cooperation skills, motivation and ambitions on other people's behalf
  • the ability and willingness to participate in change processes

The university will test teaching qualifications in connection with interviews.

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for state employees: position code 1011 associate professor, NOK 524,200–682,200 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
