The Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Physiotherapy has a vacancy for a research fellow in a fixed-term position affiliated to the research group ‘Aging, Health and Welfare’. Read more about the research group via the link.

The research fellowship period is three years without a teaching obligation.

Area of Research
A lot of resources have been invested in health research, and a question that can be raised is: How do the patients or users benefit from the research? Translation research translates the results of research into clinically relevant knowledge. The research group ‘Aging, Health and Welfare’ seeks to reduce the gap between research and practice, which is why the focus for the vacancy in the PhD project is

  1. clinicians’ beliefs about the value of evidence-based practice (EBP) and their beliefs/confidence in implementing it in practice
  2. clinicians’ implementation activities of importance for actual EBP implementation
  3. assess service providers’ attitudes toward adopting EBP
  4. production of tailored implementation intervention /s? Read more here.

According to WHO, knowledge translation has emerged as a paradigm to tackle many of the challenges and to start closing the ‘know-do’ gap. One definition of ‘knowledge translation is‘the synthesis, exchange, and application of knowledge by relevant stakeholders to accelerate the benefits of global and local innovation in strengthening health systems and improving people’s health'. Read more here.

It is in the interests of the health professions, patients, decision-makers and the general public that the health service’s decisions are based on the best research available. However, a range of aspects, such as attitudes, different views of knowledge, behavioural, cultural and organisational factors, hinder the successful implementation of research in clinical practice. This gap creates different practical, scientific and political challenges, both in Norway and internationally, in the field of fall prevention.

The main goals of the advertised PhD project are

  1. Map the health professionals’ attitudes measured with the 3 instruments the EBP Beliefs Scale, the EBP Implementation Scale and the Evidence-based Practice Attitude Scale-36.
  2. Examine the association between health professionals' sociodemographic characteristics and their sumscore on the 3 instruments the EBP Beliefs Scale, the EBP Implementation Scale and the Evidence-based Practice Attitude Scale-36, as well as the association between the sumscores of these 3 instruments.
  3. Access the psychometric properties of the three instruments the EBP Beliefs Scale, the EBP Implementation Scale and the Evidence-based Practice Attitude Scale-36 among different health professional groups in Norway.
  4. Performing a feasibility study in order to enhance implementation of evidence-based knowledge in fall prevention.

On this basis, the research group ‘Aging, health and welfare’ announces a research fellow position affiliated to the project ‘Belief, confidence and knowledge - a bridge to evidence- based practice in fall prevention (abbreviated title: BELCON-EBP_Fall).
